Requiem For Lyra's Love

The first time I saw you, I wondered

How you could be so brave?

As your world fell to pieces around you,

And those that you loved failed to save.

As we journeyed together, I watched you

Grow to a man, from a boy.

Learning the skills that would save us,

Forgetting yourself as we toiled

You gave all you had, to help others

Sacrificed all that you own,

And I find it ironic, as you must

Abandon the love we have grown.

Why must this world we fought so hard to save,

Deny us the love we know is true?

Why must my heart be torn apart again,

When all that I want is you?

All that I ask, is to hold you

To forever be close to your heart.

Yet I know that we soon must be parted,

So the spirits we freed may depart

We're fading away here, I feel it,

And so this must be goodbye.

We'll meet on the bench each midsummer,

Worlds between us, I'll sit there and cry.
