The Captain

The waves crashed into the sides of the ship. Darkness filled the sky as the sun started to set. The wood of the galleon-east indianman hybrid groaned as the temperature fell.

A sigh fell from the lips of a brunette young man. It has been many years sence he stepped onto the decks of a vessel of the sea. To long, in fact. He almost forgotten that he had to ask if the beauty could be modified for transport of captives at a reasonable price.

Thankfully not. This beauty was too good for such a thing. She would have made a lovely pirate ship.

Stopping his thoughts there, the young man shook his head. He learned that there were very few pirates that were caring or willing to step in when someone needed help. That they were more than ready to take and destroy what was before them. No better than the dreadful company he was now working for.

Oh how he wished that the company did not save him. Now he was bound by honor of a life debt to serve them. Originally, he joined them to get info and possibly a ship of his own. Now he had a ship, but not the freedom he would have had if there was no life debt.

Sighing once more, he ran his hand over the dark wood of the vessel. He knew that he could never gain a time such as his past ever again. He will have to brand old friends and enemies alike. This beauty will be a bait for numerous raids and attacks.

Looking up into the sky he watched the stars glow with mocking cheer. Damn his honor. This beauty typically needed six hands to steer away. He knew of six who would sail with him, and be more than happy to do so. But he himself could not make the first step to run from he chains he has gained.

Closing his eyes he let himself hear the groans and cries of the ship. Letting go of his mental and spiritual shields, he connected with his ship.

Pearl.

No matter what the charters call her, she was the Pearl. His Pearl. Where she sails, he sails. She was his freedom. And she would not fail him. Ever.

Opening his eyes Cutler Beckett smiled, he had a ship who would rise when needed and go where no other ship has gone before, just to please her captain.

And that was what he was.

The Pearl's Captain.
