Six year-old Harry watched enviously as Dudley happily sets up for Christmas with his mum and dad. Harry should be with them. He's family too. He knows that, but to them, he might as well be invisible. Unless they need something cleaned of course.
Dudley doesn't really care about Christmas traditions; he's more interested in the presents, but even he enjoys setting up the tree.
He watches as Uncle Vernon heaves up Dudley, struggling under the weight of a very fat boy. Dudley tries to place the star on top of the tree, but he's not careful enough and almost drops it. Harry knows it would have broken. Thankfully, Aunt Petunia is quick enough to catch it. "Be careful, Dudders," she gently admonishes.
He doesn't get hit in the face, Harry notices. He doesn't even get yelled at. Once again, Harry wonders what is wrong with him that his own family doesn't want him.
Harry wishes he could be part of the fun, but even at the tender age of six, he knows he'll always be on the outside looking in when it comes to the Dursleys, and there's nothing he can do to change it.
