A/N: Not mine, we only play together!
Remus Lupin sat in the living room at Number 12 Grimmauld Place, staring into the crackling fire. It had been almost two years since his best friend and companion Sirius Black fell through the veil at the Department of Mysteries.
Sirius Black and James Potter were the best of friends. Sirius was there for James when he admitted his feelings for Lily Evans. But when it came to his own, Sirius just hid them from the world.
During Christmas holiday fifth year, Sirius decided to remain at Hogwarts, despite family demands. James and Peter went home, as well as the majority of Gryffindor House. By the first day of holiday, only Sirius and his other best friend, Remus Lupin remained in Gryffindor Tower.
Remus had had feelings for his friend since third year, when he came to terms with being gay. He remained secretive about his sexuality as not to alarm his friends.
Sitting by the fireplace, book in hand, Remus attentively observed Sirius, who was across the room, quill in hand, writing in a hurried fashion. Assuming that Sirius was writing a letter to James, Remus returned to his book.
The next morning, Remus woke up early. Making sure not to awaken Sirius, Remus quietly dressed and left the dormitory, making his was to the Great Hall for breakfast.
Being the first student to arrive, Remus made his way to his usual seat and sat down. Then, Remus noticed something unusual. Sitting on his plate was a crimson envelope, with his name written in gold. Remus picked up the envelope and opened it up with the utmost care.
Remus,
Since the end of last school year, I could not stop thinking about you. I love everything about you! The way you walk, the way you talk, even the way you sleep! I cannot possibly put my feelings into words because they are so strong!
"Remus?" a husky voice whispered behind him, "I really care about you." Remus turned around to find Sirius standing behind him, dressed in the nicest robes he owned. Remus stood to his feet and faced Sirius, tears running down his cheeks. Sirius took Remus into his arms, kissing the boy on top of his head.
Padfoot and Moony sat next to the fire, Moony being held in Padfoot's arms. It was Christmas holiday seventh year. They were the only ones residing in Gryffindor Tower, third year running. The young couple had been together for almost two years.
"Remus?"
"Um?"
"I got you something for Christmas."
Sirius reached for something behind him and brought a tiny box into view, handing it to Remus.
"Happy Christmas, Moony."
Remus opened the crimson box and began to cry. Inside the box was a golden ring.
"It's beautiful," whispered Remus as he hugged Padfoot, who then took the ring and placed it on Remus's left ring finger.
"Please don't ever leave me," Sirius whispered, kissing Remus.
Remus continued to look into the fire.
"I never left you, Padfoot," he whispered. Remus then retrieved a long golden chain from the folds of his robes. He unclasped the chain, removing a golden ring from it, the same one Sirius gave him almost 18 years before. Placing it onto his left ring finger, he continued.
"I love you, Sirius…always have…always will…"
Remus brought his wand up to his temple.
"I never left you."
Tears trickled down Remus's cheeks, as he mumbled a spell…green light enveloping him…
