This is just a quick little sad thing I wrote up a day or two go. Guns n' Roses was taken down, by the way. I'll repost it later and hope the Admin decides to let me keep it.
Worlds Away
"I've never really believed in God," she admits suddenly. Frankly, he's surprised either of them can move, what, with most of their blood on the outside of their bodies. They lie on their backs in their mingling blood, waiting for death. There's no more pain, just a numb sort of fading existence. She takes a raspy breath and reaches for his hand. Her grip is weak. "You see..." she continues on shakily, "I thought that there was something, just not one singular god... I think that, when we die, everything we are... Except our bodies... Is brought somewhere we can be happy. To some world where... Where loved ones are alive and... Happiness is constant." He listens to her and wishes he could move closer and hear her soft voice better.
"I get it..." he mumbles, barely able to control his tongue to form the words.
She's silent, inhaling with an almost bubbling sort of sound. Blood has found its way into her lungs. "But..." she speaks again only to be cut off by a weak cough. "But I guess that'd be heaven, huh? Being able..." She breathes. "To stay with those you love." She squeezes his hand with what force she can muster. He does his best to nod in agreement. Her expression is one of hope. He's so entranced by it. But suddenly, she bits her lip, a small frown on her face. "You'll be there, right?" she asks nervously. "I... I want you to be there."
" 'Course I will..." he mumbles reassuringly. Her slight smile returns and she looks up at the sky.
"Good... I want you there..." Her voice is transparent and hard to catch. "You can go fishing with Amy and I... But you have to let her catch the most fish, if you can help it... She deserves it..." Her breathing becomes thicker as the blood begins to coagulate in her lungs. He feels his open body weakening, succumbing to blood loss, but she's hurt worse than he is. "And we can try Dale's home made peach preserves... Did he ever tell you about those...? He used to make them for his wife..." She coughs again but continues on. "We can have a big house by a lake... And a dog, maybe... You can go hunting whenever you want on the acres and acres of land we'll own..." He listens to her description of the next life and can't help but think it sounds good. Sharing it with her would be good. They wouldn't just have a dog. Maybe a child or two. She took another shuddering breath and he noticed his own were thick and uneasy. "You'd be... Okay with that... Right? Sharing a-" she coughed for a third time. "A house with me?"
He nods. "Yeah... That'd be great..." His voice is thick and barely there. She smiles again, making the effort he had put into talking worth it.
"I've always liked you, you know... Since... Since..." She's unable to name a time but doesn't care. "A long time ago..." she finishes with. "You'll meet me there, right?" she asks again, fear in her voice.
"Yeah... We'll see Amy n' Dale n' everyone..." His voice was soft but filled with happiness.
"It's going to be so amazing..." She whispers tiredly.
She stares at the sky. He feels her hand go limp after a few minutes, but isn't sad. He knows where she is. She's worlds away, in a place where her sister is alive and her other loved ones are too.
And he can't wait to join her.
