The Perfect Ring

She liked eccentric things. He liked plants. Somewhere, someone had recognised that a ring representing both of things needed to be made. He'd been surprised someone had thought of it before him – but also glad. He wasn't sure he could explain that thought in his head well enough for a custom-made one.

He found it in Knockturn alley – a far more reputable place nowadays but still the place to go to find less familiar things, the things that don't exist in Diagon Alley.

It wasn't gold or even silver but a mix of red and green and goblin steel, but still it sparkled – a kaleidoscope of colours on the back of her pale hand that changed its pattern when she moved to and from a light. It was the perfect ring for her.

And she agreed. She kissed him when he showed her, arms around his neck and her walnut earrings pressed against his cheek.

He almost forgot to ask the question that came with the ring – but then again, she'd already given her answer.
