PROLOGUE

The coldness of the bars on the cage were a much welcomed kindness after what Indiana Summers had just experienced; her blood was boiling with hatred but she lacked the energy to even glare at the floor.

"You okay, kid?" Enobaria called from her own prison.

A grunt was all she received in response. Enobaria was never tortured. This was probably due to the fact that she hadn't tried to cheat the Games. However, she was always kind enough to ask how the younger girl was doing; Indie supposed Enobaria was trying to look out for her, to honour her aunt and uncle.

Who were dead.

So many people were dead. All because Katniss had been naïve enough to think we could escape the Games with everyone they loved safe.

A coldness touched the blonde's hand and she glanced down to see that Peeta had joined his hand with hers. Since their imprisonment, the two had become quite close. This was probably due to their cells being next to each other. Captivity brings people together in the strangest of ways. It took a while but Indie had finally forgiven the boy from killing her.

Peeta didn't say anything to comfort the girl but he didn't have to, the tight grip on her hand was enough.

Where was Cato?

Was he dead?

Did he escape?

Indie's mind couldn't stop the hurricane of thoughts and she prayed that her fiancé was somewhere safe with Katniss and Finnick - not lying in the Capitol deceased.

Johanna occupied the cell on the left but at the moment, her cell was empty. Every time Johanna returned, she was still shaking from whatever sick torture was inflicted on her.

The captives never spoke about what happened to them, but at night, the horrors resurfaced and pained screams filled the air. The worst was Annie. They never tortured her because they knew her mind was fragile enough as it was, all they had to do was ask her questions. Despite knowing she knew nothing, President Snow kept her to draw out Finnick. They were in Hell on Earth but they never spoke. It helped that the majority of them knew nothing about the rebellion. Instead, they endured their pain and waited for their rescue.

They were resilient.

They were hopeful.

They were foolish.
