…
Contrary to what many believe Harry Potter was not the first person to discover the Mirror of Erised, but rather I discovered it one afternoon when I was hiding from Filch, the caretaker of Hogwarts School Witchcraft and Wizardry, and his obnoxious cat Mrs. Norris.
I had ducked into a classroom which was pretty much deserted except for a few desks, a wastepaper basket and the mirror, which was against the far wall and looked out of place in the otherwise deserted classroom. At first, I didn't realize what it was it just seemed like an odd place for a mirror.
Not missing an opportunity, I looked into it. I was, by nature not a vain person but there are often times you see a mirror and you have to look into it, if only to consult your appearance to make sure there is not a hair out of place, dirt on your nose, or that you have an embarrassingly large zit.
Seeing as none of this was an issue I was about to turn away when something else appeared in the mirror. I instantly recognized the face of my best friend, the same sandy brown hair and bright, laughing blue eyes. As I continued to watch our reflections turned towards each other and we kissed, not a long kiss certainly not the kind that I had envisioned in my head for many years, but a sweet caring kiss nonetheless.
Then the reflections linked hands and stood there smiling at me; the reflection of my friend continued to smile and nod as if everything was right with the world.
By this time Filch had gone and Mrs. Norris had slunk away (for which I was grateful) smiling at the reflections in the mirror, I retreated from the room wondering if I would ever return. At the moment I had work to do, my Transfiguration essay wasn't going to write itself, and perhaps I could talk a certain friend into a walk around the lake before dinner.
