Paradise by the Dashboard Light: A Twilight Fanfiction

Author's Note: A three-shot drabble inspired by Meatloaf's Paradise by the Dashboard Light. I encourage listening.

Disclaimer: I don't own Twilight or the lyrics.

It was long ago, and it was far away,

and it was so much better than it is today.

Sam was tired of the hurt that battered him like waves, tired of the currents that shoved him direction he knew he didn't want to go. All he wanted to do was let go and slip under. But like a drowning man overtaken by survival instinct, he held Emily, like a life raft, close to his body. There was a time where Emily had been all he wanted, all he needed, a time when she broke through the clouds like the stars on the water, glistening like a goddess with drops of water on her skin. It wasn't so different now, actually; it just seemed that he was starting to notice the bland simplicity of the path he was on. Blinded by the imprint, he ignored the sliver of coast line—golden skin and cherry-red lips—that lingered on the horizon at his back.
