Selector Riddle Wixoss
"I…wanted to make your wish come true. Because I thought we both…share the same wish. However…I do not understand. So…why? Why are you crying? What is it that you are lacking? Why won't you accept me as your Lrig? Do you…hate me?" Before staging up her own scheme, Iona Urazoe has fought countless selectors to become an Lrig for the Selector who would share the same wish as hers. One day, she found a certain girl who is able to defeat her, but lost her Lrig during the process of having her wish accepted. That girl was Ruko Kominato. After losing Tama and Iona taking the white Lrig's place, the girl became depressed and overwhelmed with grief after losing a friend. "Why?" Ruko asks herself. "Why won't you make my wish come true? Why do I really enjoy battling as a Selector? Where are you, Tama?!"
Two weeks has passed since Iona's "fan event" and Ruko still saddened from everything that had happened back then. Yuzuki became an Lrig, Hanayo is still in Yuzuki's body, Akira Aoi's whereabouts was not mentioned, and Kazuki did not suspect anything about Yuzuki despite being resented by his fellow classmates for his relationship with his sister. The only good thing for Ruko is that Hitoe has regained her memories during the fan event. However, she decided not to challenge other selectors since she learned about the horrible truth about becoming an "Eternal Girl." Ruko desperately tried to find Tama, and Ulith, who is currently in Iona's body, but she has not been able to find either one of them.
During class time, Ruko can hear the gossips of her classmates and other students from her school, who were talking about the "fan event" Iona made up. "Hey," said a female student with two pigtails, "did any of you go to Iona's fan event?" Another female student with a blue ribbon shook her head and replied, "Nope. I didn't really understand what that message was saying, or where it was taken place at." "Was it about 'to those who select,' 'to those who are forced to select,' and 'to those who do not refuse to select' thing?" asked a student with short black hair. "Either that, or maybe she was referring about something else." said a female student with a green headband. "Speaking of Iona, what do you think happened to Akira? I mean, ever since about a month, we haven't heard a single word about her." "Maybe she's on hiatus" said a male student with small glasses. "Or what if she's been laid off for the month?" asked another male student with blue eyes. The female student with the blue ribbon turned to the male student with blue eyes and gave him an angry look. "Hey, what do you mean 'laid off?!' You think Aki-lucky doesn't deserve to be a model?!" The male student nervously stepped back and answered, "No, that's not what I'm trying to say. I mean, most models have busy schedules, right?" "Let's ask her. Maybe she knows something." said the girl with two pigtails as she pointed her left thumb at Ruko.
The girl with short black hair walks up to Ruko and asks, "Excuse me, but…do you know what this fan event was about? And what do you think happened to Akira?" By the time she looked at Ruko's face, she noticed that her eyes were almost empty and tears were slowly coming out of her eyes. The female student slightly stepped back as she realized how she felt. "Sorry. I'd rather not talk about that right now." said the student. Ruko stood up from her desk and retrieved her bag while looking down. "It's okay." said Ruko, "I don't want to talk about it either." And Ruko walks away from her classroom, heading back to her home. "What's with her? I mean, it almost looks like something bad happened to her during that event." the girl with the blue ribbon. "Whatever it is," said the boy with small glasses, "it would be best to leave her alone for a while."
At home, Ruko could not stop thinking about Tama and she barely ate anything her grandmother made for her. She stayed in the bathroom more than twenty minutes and she still couldn't get the fan event incident out of her head. After studying, she went to bed and fell asleep.
A sound was heard and Ruko slowly opened her eyes. She woke up in an empty warehouse with a thrashed up car and broken windows. Ruko instantly recognized where she was at. "I know this place. Is this…" But before she could finish, Ruko suddenly heard footsteps. A figure with a white mask appeared and walks slowly toward Ruko. The figure took off the mask and the moonlight revealed her face. It was Akira Aoi who was scarred after her third loss from Iona. "Akira-san?" Ruko nervously asked. "What are you…?" "To hell with you acting as the victim!" Akira angrily exclaimed, as she took out a knife from her pocket and reaches her left arm at Ruko. "Beating me till I groveled…You were enjoying it!" Ruko became scared and tried to run away, but Akira grabbed her by the hair and pinned her to the ground. As Akira was about to attack Ruko, the poor girl instantly shut her eyes.
Suddenly, Ruko felt the wind blowing at her face. She opens her eyes and finds herself on the top floor of the constructed building Iona's father was working on. "You seemed rather surprised." a voice was heard. Ruko turned around and looked up. She sees a girl with long black hair sitting on top of a crane. It was Iona, or rather Ulith in Iona's body. "I thought you enjoyed being a Selector. Though, I was hoping you would put aside your emotions and close your heart entirely." Ulith grinned evilly as Ruko shouted out, "You're wrong! I'm not like you, or Iona-san!" Ulith continued to grin and asked, "If you're really not like us, then what are you?" Ruko faltered as Ulith continues to torment her. "The reason why you couldn't make your wish come true was because you gave up your desire of fighting back and tried to foolishly sacrifice your own life to 'save both Selectors and Lrigs form their suffering.' After Tama couldn't accept your wish, you began to lose your determination and decided to become a normal girl. Unfortunately for you, you now have her as your new Lrig, and there will be more Selectors to hunt you down until all your three chances are gone for good." "Forget about being normal, I want Tama back!" cried Ruko. Ulith stood up and calmly replied, "If you wanted to see your little friend again, you'll have to act as a Selector once again. See you again…scum." Ulith jumps off the crane and vanishes into thin air.
"Wait! Come back!" As Ruko attempts to go after Ulith, an arm suddenly appears and grabs Ruko by the wrist. Ruko quickly turned back and was shocked to see who it was. "Why are you running away, Ru?" asked the shadowy figure, "You belong to me." Iona, Ruko's new Lrig, appeared out of nowhere and holds her so tight that it is impossible for the middle school girl to run away from. "Let go!" Ruko cried desperately as she tries to slap Iona. However, the Lrig proves to be quicker than the human and grabs her other wrist in an instant. Ruko was pinned down again and she was hugged tightly that she couldn't escape. "Ah…Ru…I always wanted to find someone like you who shares my interests. Together, we will continue the Selector cycle and tarnish anyone who gets in our way."
Ruko desperately tries to struggle herself out of Iona's grasp, but as she looks up, she sees a small girl with white hair and a white clothes. "Tama…help…me" Ruko cries softly. The white Lrig slowly steps back and sadly answered, "Ru…Tama is sorry. Tama is no longer Ru's Selector." Tama's small words effectively hurt Ruko's feelings. "Why?" Ruko asked as she began started to cry. "Tama is now someone else's Lrig. Tama wanted to be you, Ru, but…Tama can't." Tama cried almost more than Ruko and turned her back on her. Ruko managed to free one arm and reached out for Tama. "Wait, Tama! Don't leave me!" "Ru…goodbye…" Tama lowered her body from the edge of the building and fell to an endless void of darkness. Ruko, shocked at what Tama had done, continuously cried out her former Lrig's name. "Tama…TAMA!"
Ruko suddenly rose up from her bed, panting and sweating. It was all just a nightmare. A nightmare that proved to be far worse than having her city protected by a white monster or lashed out by Akira. Ruko covered her face and thought to herself, "I never thought I have a nightmare like that ever since I first met Tama." "Is Tama really all you could think about, Ru?" Ruko heard Iona's voice from her desk and approached to her. "If you really wanted to see Tama again, I can help you. But only if you promise me that we can battle against other Selectors." said Iona as she smiles to her new Selector.
"Why?" Ruko asked in anguish, "Why can't I forget about those painful memories?" "Because you were the one who lied to Tama before the tournament. Surely you have not forgotten about that, did you not?" Iona replied without changing the expression of her face. Ruko clenched her fist as she remembers about how close she was to have her wish granted, but to no avail. "If you truly hate me, go ahead and try to get rid of me. Throw me away, lock me in a desk drawer, doesn't matter." Iona continues to respond to Ruko in a calm expression as the latter grabs Iona and raises her arm in front of a small trash can. Ruko tries to gather her might to willfully do so, however she decided not to, knowing that it won't help bringing Tama back. "I knew you wouldn't do it." says Iona. "For a moment back there, I thought you would muster up the courage to go against other Selectors." "I can't. I…just can't," Ruko answered to Iona as she puts her back on the desk and starts to change her clothes. "You will. You will see." says Iona stoically, "One day, if you face a difficult situation, you will submit into battle."
Unknowingly to Ruko, a girl with short blond hair, red-orange eyes, and a school uniform, watches her from the top of a building via using binoculars. She reached to her phone, pressed her thumb on the phone number and puts it near her ear, waiting for an answer. "Yes?" the caller replied. "Nio here. I just found the little champion waking up from her scary dream. It looks like she's getting ready for school." "Excellent." answered the caller, "It's all going according to plan." "Forgive me for asking, Ms. Chairwoman. But…are you sure we should have her transfer to Myojo Academy? I mean, she's not the type of girl who could stomp on an ant. Not to mention she's still in middle school." The chairwoman of Myojo Academy lets out a small giggle and answered, "Not to worry, Nio. True, she is young. However, she has a potential even I was not aware of. Also, she would be a worthy candidate for Class Black." "Ah! Now I see!" Nio brightly answered, "You want this Kominato girl to transfer to Myojo Academy so we could give some self-confidence!" "Precisely," says the chairwoman, "however, that would be one of the reasons why. It wouldn't be right to have a young girl to be discouraged forever, would it?" "Yeah! There is no way!" Nio laughed out loud as almost anyone can hear her. "I have all the documents ready for the principal of her school and I will leave you in charge to watch over her. Also, I will be covering up her payments for her attendance. Make sure Ruko gets accepted to the academy and do not let her out of your sight, understood?" the chairwoman commanded Nio. "Yes, Ma'am!" Nio replied, as she hangs up her phone and puts on a disguise to infiltrate Ruko's school.
In a dark room, the chairwoman sits back quietly as her preparations were nearly complete. "I know it would be hard for you," the chairwoman spoke to herself, "but you will manage in this school." She leans towards her desk and makes a small grin. "I will be looking forward to seeing you, Ruko Kominato."
