I seriously just finished watching Psycho-Pass and MAN I LOVE IT! The realistic characters, the art, OH but be careful (it's rated MA, I think) But really, if you like crime and dystopian future and things like that, this is your anime. Anyway, I hope you enjoy the story, this is kind of like a prologue but not... things don't start happening until next chapter anyway
Disclaimer: NO MATTER HOW GENIUS THIS ANIME IS, I DO NOT OWN PSYCHO-PASS BUT I REALLY WANT TO
Perfection.
Humans always strive for perfection; it is so easily seen in what they value.
A perfect world,
A perfect person,
A perfect society.
Yet, once they gain what they deem perfect, they try to improve that perfection.
A more perfect world,
A more perfect person,
A more perfect society.
The only thing is, if something has already reached perfection, a state of being free from all flaws and defects, is it possible to improve that? Improve what has already been improved? Is such a thing possible?
Humans believe so. Such is the nature of our society, improvement, infinite betterment, continuous perfection, until something breaks that cycle.
But we continue on, despite setbacks, and tread forward until we reach the end of the tunnel, to perfection. But a society that can continue to perfect, a society that can perfect what has already been perfected, will it ever reach true perfection?
"Quick! Catch her, dead or alive, I don't care!"
The young woman ran, stopping every couple of minutes to catch her breath. She looked back, widening her dark brown eyes as the sound of the sirens came closer. She continued running, her footsteps echoing throughout the metal hallway.
Just a little bit more!
Panting, she dragged her feet on. She turned around once again, her brown hair whipping her face.
"Her footsteps stopped! Hurry up; we should be able to catch her!"
Her black suit was drenched in sweat. Resting her hands on her knees, she stopped to think.
Only ten more meters until I reach the bridge, if I make a break for it, I should be fine.
She cautiously looked around, staring with a small tread. The small tread soon turned into a fast walk and then into a sprint. The exit was coming into view. She ran out of the hallway and onto a bridge, a small robot waiting there for her. She pulled out a small note and tucked it into the robot's storage container.
"Deliver this to the Chief, no one else, hear me? No one."
The small robot nodded. Just then, three men in mecha-suits came out through the exit.
"GO!"
The robot buzzed, turning around and flew towards the Public Safety Bureau HQ. The woman turned back to the mecha-suits.
"Get her!"
Just as they were to attack, another mecha-suit came to the scene. The tall women controlling the silver mecha-suit turned to look at her.
"Hurry! I can only hold them off for so long."
The woman nodded and turned around, running on the tar roads of the bridge. The three mecha-suits quickly overpowered the lone mecha and went for the woman. Revealing their machine guns, they began to shoot lasers at her. Barely dodging the impact, the women continued running, gripping her arm as shrapnel lodged itself in her shoulder.
Another laser was aimed at her. She ran faster but that wasn't enough. The laser hit the ground behind her, the impact tossing her body in the air. As gravity took over, her body fell towards the water.
"So this is it, huh?" she whispered to herself.
Small tears formed at the corner of her eyes, small drips falling from her face.
"I'm a detective, I deal with potential criminals all day, I have tons of enemies and this is how I end, falling into a river and being crushed from the impact. Is this how I'll die? Pathetic. I really should have some good last words but no one's going to hear me, so I see no point. If only I could have changed the events of the last year. All this pain and hardship could have been avoided. Oh well, I just that's how the world works. A cruel world this is, but the world is only what it is composed of- cruel, lying, deceitful people. Well, see you world. I just hope the future will be better."
12 months earlier
The petite woman walked into the computer-filled room. Her file in hand, she made her way to a man with symmetrical black hair and glasses.
"Ginoza-san, I have the report of the recent investigation."
The man, Nobuchika Ginoza, took her file without giving it a second look, eyes glued to the computer screen.
"Good job, Inspector Tsunemori." He simply said.
The petite woman, Akane Tsunemori, nodded and walked to her computer. Sitting down, she started typing on the tablet that served as a keyboard.
"Oi, Ginoza-san! Chief sent me to get you, she wants to see you."
The orange-haired man, Kagari, walked in, nonchalantly announcing the inspector's summon. Ginoza gracefully got up and walked out of the room as Kagari sat down.
"What do you think the Chief wanted to see him about?" asked the slender woman, whose hair was tied in a ponytail
A man with spikey black hair stopped typing and turned around, his grey suit well pressed.
"We'll see, it could be about anything but if she sent someone, an Enforcer no less, to get Ginoza, the information must be too important risk the inspector's phone being hacked, even if that is next to nothing."
"You really think so, Kogami?" Akane asked
"Well I guess it might be something along those lines, take it from an old man like me."
"You're not that old, Masaoka."
"Come on, don't flatter me." Tomomi Masaoka replied.
"Well, whatever it is, I just hope we will actually be able to solve this one…" The woman, Yayoi Kunizuka, said
Lately, all the cases given to Division One were forced to be transferred to other divisions. So far, all the cases in the past month were unsolved, giving Division One a bad reputation.
"Whatever you guys, I just want to kick some ass!" Kagari yelled, pumping his fist in the air
Akane slightly smiled at the orange-haired male's reaction, focusing back on her work. A few minutes later, the doors opened, revealing a grim Ginoza.
"So, what did Chief want?"
He sighed.
"The failure of our recent investigations are forcing Chief to shut down Division One, permanently-"
"Wait, what? Did I hear you wrong?"
"No, you didn't Enforcer Kagari. However, thankfully, she is giving us a chance to redeem ourselves. We are to solve a case that the other divisions weren't able to solve. Our future depends on this mission. Next week we will receive every detail the other divisions found. We will look it over in the week as the notes and observations are extensive and the following week we will begin investigation of the crime. After finding a decent amount of notes, we will look over them and compare it to the other divisions' notes. Until then, we aren't doing anything special."
The Enforcers nodded and turned back to their screens. Akane, however, was looking distraught.
"What is the matter, Inspector Tsunemori?"
"Well I was thinking, what if the reason none of the other divisions were able to solve it was that the case needed information or something that only we had. Maybe Chief gave us this investigation knowing that…"
"That is reasonable, but until we find out, we can't do anything until we see the notes." Kogami said
"I guess you're right, Kogami-san."
