The sound of his feet were hitting the tree branches as he raced through the trees.

His breaths came in short pants when he felt his legs straining and his lungs felt like they were on fire.
'Hey, what are you doing, kit?'
'Just checking out the forest, why?'
'You're tired aren't you?'
'What's it to you?'
The fox grunted. 'You're about to die from exhaustion and if you die, I die remember? And in this rate, you're about to cross the country border.'
'Wow, Fox, never knew you had a maternal side. So glad you cared. The final rounds of the chuunin exams are tomorrow and I'm…nervous.' Naruto admitted. He was pitted against Neji in the very first match. Suprisingly, his over self-confidence were not doing him justice tonight. Neji was known in The Leaf Village as a natural genius. Just like Sasuke, his number one eternal rival.
'Kit, you're being ridiculous—as usual. Your whiny blabbering is not going to help you win that match.' the nine-tailed demon fox ignored the 'maternal' comment.
'Easy for you to say. You're not actually fighting him. Everybody in this village is practically placing their bet on Neji. I don't stand a chance.'
'Okay, number one, kit, I can squish that punk with just my paw if I could and two, your uncertainness is throwing off your image as an idiot you know that?'
Naruto glared at the fox in his thoughts. 'I don't really have an image to maintain in the first place anyway. You just saying that shows that even you don't have faith in me to beat that guy.'
The fox was getting annoyed. He needed to sleep but the boy's thoughts were making it hard for him. His and Naruto's minds were linked right now so that even he felt a bit nervous.
'Look, if I said that I can help you win that match could you shut up and let me go to sleep.'
He felt the shock going through the boy's mind. 'What!? Yeah, anything!'
'Feel free to borrow my chakra. But use it as a last resort. If I can, I would like to be in contact with you as less as possible.' And then he was gone.
'Okay then I can handle that.' Naruto thought and started running in the opposite direction towards his house. He would need a good night's sleep for tomorrow.
'Just you wait Neji, I am definitely getting back at you.'
