A/N: This is an amazing song, and sadly, it belongs to Damien Rice, not me. I hope you like the one-shot though :) (Oh, and I definitely do not own OTH.)

Here is my first attempt at OTH!

Still a little bit of your taste in my mouth,
Still a little bit of you laced with my doubt,
Still a little hard to see, what's going on.

Still a little bit of your ghost, your witness
Still a little bit of you face, I haven't kissed
You step a little closer each day
Till I can't tell what's going on.

"Canonball" -- Damien Rice.

It was a burden he carried around everyday; he couldn't deposit the load, or pass it onto a friend -- it remained on his shoulders. It didn't seem to matter what he did, or who he met, she always made his heart beat like no other. Her presence seemed to light up a room, her smile dazzling every occupant of the room.

He was no stranger to being dazzled by Brooke Davis.

He was permanently under her spell, no matter how many times he tried to escape it. His heart led him back to her each time, but he couldn't have her anymore. Lucas had had his chance, and had missed it and messed it up on numerous occasions.

There were times he thought she would kiss him, confess her love and they would be together. But it could never happen.

It was strange to remind himself -- it could never happen.

Lucas was getting married now, and it wasn't to Brooke. He banished thoughts of her when he could, even attempting to set her up once or twice to exile thoughts of him and her together. All attempts failed, and he returned to his fiance with a fake smile and lies about where his love lay.

Nonchalant and careless 'I love you's' thrown between Peyton and he, and still his heart sped at the thought of spending time alone with their mutual best friend.

Still he thought of her at night; remembered her husky chuckle, her sweet kisses and fragile heart. He remembered her taste and the feel of her skin, and couldn't make himself forget. Lucas had tried so many times to forget, to move on with his new family. All attempts, once again, failed. Brooke Davis was etched in his mind forever, and he hoped he could focus on Peyton when she was walking down the aisle instead of Brooke.

Her beauty astounded anyone who came in contact, as she was as beautiful inside as she was out. And Brooke Davis was one of the most stunning women he ever knew.

She taught him all about love, heartbreak and people. She had a complex personality, which he found both intriguing and, at times, endearing. Her heart was sheltered, protected by walls and masks that took time and loyalty to break down.
Once Brooke Davis let you in though, you counted your blessings. She had the most amazing heart, and he frequently wondered why and how he had broken it on so many occasions. She was far from an angel -- quite the opposite in fact, being a horrible person through most of high school, but he accepted her flaws. It was part of Brooke.

Peyton was his comet; the one who brought Brooke to him. The one who handed him everything he wanted for him to throw it away. Lucas loved Peyton, but it wasn't the same as Brooke. He felt that every time he kissed Peyton, every time he held her.

She wasn't Brooke, and it was a sad and stark reminder of what he lost.

As he said, it was a burden he had to carry everyday. It never went away, no matter what he did.

He was in love with Brooke Davis.

Irrevocably and irreversibly in love with her.

… and marrying her best friend.
