Summary: A small ficlet about the first time Dewey showed Kit his underwater catalogue.

Dewey Denouement was nothing if not a private man, and his underwater catalogue of Hotel Denouement and VFD was his life's work. He didn't want to share it with anyone until absolutely necessary, and it wouldn't be necessary until it was complete. Yet, there was one person that it was difficult for him to be private around. Kit Snicket, the love of his life, he could never -would never- hide anything from her. Why would he want to, when he loved her so dearly? Their love had no secrets, she had disclosed everything about her past to him, whereas he had no past, nothing to tell her and nothing to show her. All he had was her and his underwater catalogue. And he still hadn't shown her his underwater catalogue, but now he felt as though he should.
Kit rolled over and opened her eyes slowly, smiling at Dewey. "Good morning, my love," she whispered, reaching out to touch him, which pulled him from his thoughts. After all, for Kit, touching him wad the only way to prove to herself that he was indeed real. She loved him with all of her heart and if she woke up to find that he wasn't real (for so many really believed he was only a myth), she knew she would die of loneliness.
"Good morning, my darling Kit," he said quietly, touching her face before giving her a gentle kiss. Well, he thought. Now is as good a time as any. "Kit, my love. I've been thinking."
"You're always thinking, my darling Dewey," she replied.
"I know, but I've been thinking that there's something I want to show you," he said with a small smile.
"Dewey dearest, I know how private you are, don't think that just because you and I are in a relationship means that you need to show me everything," she said.
"I know, but I still want to show you my catalogue," he replied. Kit's eyes filled with tears and Dewey suspected that he knew the reason. H had never shown anyone his life's work and he had always vowed to not show anyone until it was complete. It was far from complete, both of them knew, but Kit meant the world to him and he wanted to show her.
"Dewey, are you sure?" she asked, looking him in the eyes. He wasn't the type to jest very often, but she had to be sure that she was hearing him right.
"Of course I am," he answered her. "And we're going to go right now. Come on, let's go." Kit got off their bed and pulled her dressing gown on, waddling after her lover. Clearly, he was eager to show her, so she wouldn't keep him waiting. Well, it would take them a little bit longer to reach his underwater catalogue in her pregnant state, but Kit didn't mind at all. Soon, they arrived at the doors that separated the main hotel from the catalogue. Kit knew a few things about her lover's work, but not enough to really know anything. When Dewey opened the door and led her into a corridor that was identical to the one that they had just been on, she realized something that he had never disclosed. The catalogue was the hotel's 'reflection' in the pond outside. She had been expecting it to be a massive secret, as Dewey was the most secretive person she knew, but this was beyond even what she had been expecting. As they walked through the corridors that matched those of Hotel Denouement exactly (only emptier), Dewey opened some doors to show her the interiors. It matched the hotel so very much it was almost scary.
When the tour was concluded, Kit thanked him for showing her with a small kiss. "Well, you're the only person I trust enough to see this, and it's because I love you. You will always, until it is finished, be the only one I have ever showed."
