thoughts: Wow, I'm back again already. That was fast.
Another Fairy Tail drabble to warm your winter.
pairing: Gray & Juvia
disclaimer: I do not own Fairy Tail.
silver mornings
The chilling winter rain seems to pour in sync with every step she takes.
Juvia shifts the weight of her pink, frilly umbrella to her shoulder, her free hand brushing aside her cobalt locks to glimpse up at the quiet, dark sky.
Gray as always.
This is her normal routine. Wake up, go to work at the local bookstore, and walk home in the company of comforting crystal raindrops. This is what she is used to. It is normal to see the fat lady with the animal around her neck mutter to herself, the pink-haired boy with the blonde girl arguing lively while walking very close to each other, and even the cerulean cat that soon follows them with a dead fish in its clutches.
Juvia finds that she lives in the strangest of towns.
What she does not expect is to come across a young man dressed in a light, white shirt and dark jeans in the middle of the winter. His coal messy hair brushing carelessly over his dark, dark eyes as he briskly walks by with his hands shoved deep into his pockets. And as they cross paths, those dark and dangerously piercing eyes of his meet her own indigo orbs.
In that split second, Juvia feels the familiar cold rain on her skin for the first time in ages and the air between the two is electrifying.
This is possibly due to the fact that she had somehow dropped her umbrella, and the very stranger that her chilled her blood and raised goosebumps on her skin with one glance picks it up and extends his exposed toned arm to return it. She accepts it with gratitude, feeling the heat rise to her cheeks, staining her pale skin with a soft scarlet blush.
"S-sorry about that. And, um, thank you," She says in a quiet voice, peeking at him through long lashes.
He gives her a crooked smile. "S'okay." His voice is deep and smooth, and she can't help but like the sound of it with the drizzling rain in the background.
Juvia watches him with curiosity, tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear.
"I'm Juvia, by the way."
His endless eyes burrow deep into her own, and he shakes some water out of his damp hair with the hand that wasn't still in his pocket. She feels centuries tick by as she is unable to tear his lightly dressed form from her sight until he utters a single word.
"Gray."
Like the sky.
"Kind of like the sky right now," he muses softly and looks up, shielding his eyes from the downpour. Her heart skips a beat.
Juvia shivers visibly, patting down her hat.
"You cold?" He tilts his head to side.
"Not really. Aren't you?" Her eyes flicker to his (now almost transparent) shirt and linger on the cross chained loosely around his muscular neck.
"I prefer the cold."
Without thinking, she stammers, "Do you want to get some ice cream?"
He blinks and she stares. Leaning in a bit, he smirks and shrugs, "How 'bout shaved ice?"
And for the second time that day, she shivers, but the rain feels scalding hot on her icy skin.
Juvia closes her eyes, basking in the warmth of the winter mist.
