I've been dreading this moment since Jasper attacked Bella. Maybe she will forget about me and move on. One can only hope. "Come take a walk with me," I tell her and turn away before I can see her confusion.
She fallows me into the deep green forest near her home and I tell her we're leaving. "I have to think of something to say to Charlie," she responds. I have to try harder. Or not. "When you say we…"
"I mean my family and myself," I finish. Realization settles in, along with sadness, anger, and pain. I almost feel bad. Almost. I promise her that she will never have to see me again before I kiss her forehead and speed home. She will thank me later when she has a normal human life.
