A/N: It took me HOURS but I finally got inspiration for some cute HousexCameron action! Enjoy!
Two days. Two long days. Two long, painful, excruciating days. Two days of sitting and waiting. Watching. Worrying. Hell, even praying. The Atheist was praying.
Because if he died, she would too.
She would never admit that to him. He would probably laugh in her face. He had already established that he didn't have feelings for her.
So why did she hold on?
Because he had become the reason why she woke up in the morning. The reason she went to work. The reason she put up with his crap. The reason. Plain and simple.
And that reason might possibly be slipping away from her.
Two days.
The longest two days of her life.
It was going on the third day, and Dr. Allison Cameron was in her usual seat beside his bed. He had been shot. Twice. The day still replays in her head, even though it had passed. Fear causing her heart to leap into her throat. Feeling like she might pass out as she watched him get shot.
There was a soft groan from the bed, and for the first time in days Cameron's mood seemed to brighten considerably.
Dr. Gregory House was stirring.
Sure enough, his blue eyes fluttered open and he groaned once more. The first thing he saw was Cameron.
Beautiful, naïve Cameron. She looked like an angel after watching his eyelids.
"How long have I been out?" He croaked, licking his dry lips.
Cameron stood up and poured him a cup of water. "Two days." She sat down on the edge of the bed and handed him the cup. "Here."
"Thanks," House whispered, taking the cup and downing the contents. "Where is he?"
"Jail. He tried to escape but Chase called security while Foreman and I tended to you. He didn't get far."
House brought a hand up and rubbed his cheeks and chin. "I need a shave," he muttered.
Cameron smiled softly. "You look fine." That was bullshit. He looked like he had been shot. Pale. Sickly.
House wasn't that stupid. He glanced at Cameron. "Liar." He looked her over. She looked just as bad as he probably did. "Have you been home?"
"Only when Cuddy made me." Her reply made House sigh.
"Why?"
"Because I care about you. I care about what happens to you."
"Why? I'm a dick to you. You should have castrated me while I was unconscious."
Cameron smiled and crossed her arms over her chest. "There's no way in hell I'd castrate you while you're unconscious." He looked over at her and she added, "I'd wait until you were awake."
House smirked. That's my girl, he thought. Wait, my girl? Where did that come from? She wasn't his. He had made it perfectly clear that he didn't want to be hers and he didn't want her as his own.
Maybe a bullet fragment hit his brain and is making him stupid.
Or maybe he loved her. Maybe even more than Stacy.
"House?" Cameron asked softly, a worried expression on her countenance.
"Relax. I was thinking."
"About?"
"World peace, Cameron. What do you think? About being shot." He lied, glaring over at her.
She seemed to believe it, because she nodded and looked away.
House reached over and took her hand softly, making her look at him quickly.
"Thanks, Allison," he murmured, occasionally looking into her eyes.
"For what?"
House looked her straight in the eye. "You know for what."
