Raito growls as he strips Ryuzaki's shirt from his thin, pale body. Ryuuzaki's breath hitches in his throat as his teeth scrape down the most sensitive part of Raito's neck, making him moan.

There's nothing soft or considerate or thoughtful about the pair rolling around on the bed, making small sounds deep in their throats as they each fight for what they have staked as their own. They are both selfish and this is a selfish coupling, no more making love than their daily exchange of accusations and percentages is playful banter. It's a battle for dominance that happens to have carried into the bedroom.

They don't love each other. Neither of them is capable of love.

Kira is a god of justice and punishment and there is no room in his nature for love.

He's creating a new world in his image and it's going to be perfect. No criminals and no bad people and definitely no L. It's a shame, because L is almost smart enough to make a good second-in-command but there's no help for it. Raito might be Ryuuzaki's first real friend, but Kira hates him with the fierce passion of a man who has never acknowledged an equal, let alone a superior. He almost respects L for that -no one before him was worth hating.

L is a shadowy figure sitting behind a computer in a dark room and he doesn't have time for love.

He stands for justice because it amuses him to do so and because solving the perfect crime is far more interesting than committing one -especially when everyone is so stupid. Raito-kun isn't stupid though and neither is Kira. Ryuuzaki might have called Raito-kun his first real friend but it means nothing next to the grim determination that he is going to win this thing. But Kira is smart enough to frustrate L, and it's actually a little exciting. He can respect him for that -no one's ever been good enough to turn his carefully crafted plans into complete chaos the way Kira does.

They don't love each other. But maybe this is as close as they will ever come.
