They rode in silence. Bianca, plunged deep in her thoughts, barely acknowledged Cameron as he pulled up in front of her house and stopped the car. She couldn't stop thinking about that idiot Joey and how he and Chastity had ruined her first night out, a night that was supposed to be fun. She unbuckled her seat belt and looked at Cameron.
"You never wanted to go sailing with me, did you?" he asked suddenly, interrupting her thoughts.
She knew he would ask this at some point. And he was right: she didn't want to. First of all, Cameron wasn't at all her type of guy, and second, she only accepted to go sailing so that her sister Kat would, hopefully, be able to date.
So she lied:
"Yes I did…"
"No, you didn't," he cut her off shortly.
He had all the right to be mad at her. After all, she had ditched him the whole night and she practically used him this whole time to get to Joey. And for what? He was a total idiot. Cameron didn't deserve this. She owed him the truth.
"Well, okay," she started. It killed her to say this. She didn't want to hurt him. "No. Not actually."
Cameron couldn't believe he had been so naïve to believe that they could be together. What was he thinking? That he could get Bianca, the girl everyone wanted? Did he really think he could compete with Joey the model?
"Well, then that's all you had to say," he said disappointedly.
He stayed silent for a while.
"Have you always been this selfish?" he asked.
Bianca pondered for a few seconds. He was right, she was selfish. All this time, she had only thought about herself: she hadn't thought that she might hurt Cameron or even Kat in the process.
"Yes," she replied meekly.
"You know, just because you're beautiful, it doesn't mean you can treat people like they don't matter," he said, letting out his anger. "I mean, I really like you, okay?"
Bianca turned to face him, intrigued. Cameron couldn't even believe he was telling her how he felt about her, but he had to take his chance. It was now or never. None of it mattered anyway, she didn't have feelings for him…
"I defended you when people called you conceited. I helped you when you asked me to," he declared. "I learned French for you! And then you just blow me off..."
Bianca gazed at him the whole time, moved by his speech. No one had ever told her something as sweet as that. And for the first time since she knew him, Bianca looked at Cameron in a different way. For the first time, he was not her French tutor, he was not just her friend: he was much more than that.
She grabbed his face, bringing it to hers, and kissed him like she'd never kissed anyone before. Stunned, Cameron could feel his heart pounding against his chest. They were kissing. And it was fucking unbelievably amazing. It only lasted a few seconds but it felt like an eternity before she broke off the kiss.
They both smiled at each other. Then, without another word, Bianca stepped out of the car and walked back to her home.
Cameron, triumphant, slammed the palm of his hand against the wheel: "And I'm back in the game!"
