I wrote this a while ago (ok, a year ago) but I never thought about posting it for some reason until now. TwT
It's from Edward's point of view, after the movie's over and such. It's about how Edward can't ever live a normal life, even if he wanted to, because of the effect on the people around him. But he still wants a little something to remember that he once had a shot at it, just a little token of remembrance. However, if he's not allowed it, he'll understand and just hold ever-closer to the few good memories he has.
Inspired by the song 'Ice Dance' from the movie, and a lovely flower picture. (links aren't allowed here)
Like a flower
in the spring
I long to feel some touch
of healing
Something that
I will not break
That people, frightened,
will not take
Away from me
and leave me broken,
Even if it's
just a token
Of something that once
could have been
But never will be
I can't win
In this life
of perfect streets,
Friends and neighbors
happily greet
One another
every day
I can't share
with them or stay,
For my presence
brings only bad
It doesn't matter
if I'm good or sad
I cannot live
among the town
Peacefully
for only frowns
Ever greet me
when I'm out
Voices whisper
all about
I don't mind,
but then they shout
"We don't want you,
Out, get out!"
So once again
I but request
for a simple
memory, lest
You do not wish me
to remember
In which case,
I'll surrender
The thing which I will
hold most dear
Even if it gives
me fear
To let go
and go on living
But I'll always
remember and be missing
You.
