This fanfic takes place after the series. It's just a short thing I though of while at school.

~~~~~~~~~~ SAYONARA, HOTOHORI ~~~~~~~~~~
"What's wrong, Hotohori?" asked Chichiri.
"Nothing. Just thinking."
"About Miaka?"
Hotohori smiled. "Seems you know all, don't you?"
"Not really." They smiled at each other. "You still love her, don't you?"
"Always." Chichiri was starting to get concerned.
"Aren't you going to tell her?"
"Iie. She has Tamahome. That's all she needs to make her happy." Hotohori got up and grabbed his things. "Well, I better go. "My plane's here." He headed for the gate when he heard someone call his name.
"Matte, Hotohori!" He stooped and turned around.
"Miaka?" She ran into his arms. He felt happy at that moment. "What are you doing here? How'd you know I was leaving?" Miaka smiled and turned to look at Keisuke, who was standing beside Chichiri. He looked out of breath.
"Why didn't you tell me, Hotohori?" she looked up at him. He didn't answer. "Why are you leaving?" He still didn't answer. He just looked at her with those wonderful eyes of his full of love for her. She could see it in his face that he was sad.
"I have to go." That was all he said. He backed away from her and grabbed his bag. He took one last look at her. "I love you, Miaka. I hope you and Tamahome will be happy." He reached out and placed his hand on her cheek. She started to cry softly. With his thumb, he wiped off her tears. "Ai shiteru, Miaka. Always." He kissed her forehead, then once again headed for the gate. He never looked back.
"Sayonara Hotohori. Gomen Nasai." More tears started coming down her cheek. She watched him disappear into the crowd. `Sayonara.'
"Suzaku no Miko?"
"Hai, Hotohori-sama. It's said that a girl from another world will come to save our country."
"Suzaku no Miko.... Maybe she'll be the one to rid me of my loneliness. Maybe she will love for who I am inside, and not for my position as Emperor. Surely."
