Mello was four the first time he saw her. She had big brown eyes and her long blonde hair was in two ponytails. She was wearing a frilly pink dress and she was beautiful.

Coming closer, Mello could see she had bruises on her arms and a black eye. She was probably new, Mello reasoned, got taken away from her abusive parents. He shuddered, no wonder she wasn't smiling.

"Hi," he said, maybe he could cheer her up..

She gave him a look he'd seen on other kids at the orphanage, but it was the first time he really felt the look. He felt as if the weight of the world had been placed on his shoulders but he couldn't understand why, he just knew he would have to carry it forever. But the feeling was quickly replaced by terror. A hideous monster had appeared behind the girl. It had a long chin, pointy teeth, and strange purple markings on it's face. It had terrible wings and ugly bones on it's body. Mello screamed rather girlishly and ran away, leaving the girl to be eaten by the monster.

By the time he got Roger and brought him back to the spot where he saw the monster, both it and the girl were gone, and Roger was left to question the small blond boy's sanity, but he dismissed it as the overactive imagination of a four year old who had consumed much too much chocolate.
