The second day of Christmas
Five years.
How could it have been that long? It all seemed to pass in the blink of an eye, but it was true. It had been five and a half years since that summer, the summer he became human… the summer he met her.
How could it have been that short? He felt like he had been with her forever.
After he became a real boy, John and Dawn's parents actually adopted him, and he had a home for the first time in his life. (When Christy asked him why they shouldn't see if her parents could adopt him, he avoided the question.) More importantly, it turned out they lived next door to Christy.
They grew even closer than they had during that short summer. Several years later, they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend.
"Hey, Dark!" The brunette called out cheerfully, shaking the boy formerly known as Dark Heart out of his reverie. He shook his head and glanced forwards towards the girl, smiling wryly. Christy was the only one who still called him by his old name; everyone else, even the twins and the Care Bears who visited on occasion, referred to him by his new moniker of Darek. And he was glad on that account; if anyone else called him Dark Heart, it would be a painful reminder of his past life of evil, a life which now he wholly regretted. But when Christy called him by that name, it was different. When Christy said it, it wasn't condemning or fearful; it was remembrance of when a young girl saw past a demon's heart of darkness and was able to care.
"I'm coming, Christy!" the boy returned, trotting forwards to where the girl had sat down on the park bench and stuffed her hands into a warm woolen muff.
The young woman acknowledged him with a nod and a smile, then continued to gaze at the snowflakes as they gently drifted to the ground. Dark Heart sat down next to her, sharing in the beautiful view.
Christy slowly lowered her head to her boyfriend's shoulder.
"I'm so happy you're in my life, Dark Heart." She murmured softly, letting her eyelids slip closed as she rested against the boy who had once killed her.
Dark Heart glanced down at the relaxed girl, then a hesitant smile grew on his features as he draped an arm over her shoulder.
"Not nearly as happy as I am, Christy."
Author's notes: Waugh! To... much... fluff... -dies from fluffyness overload- Heehee, I absolutely love this pairing, but I can't believe I wrote something so over-the-top in the sappy/cheesy/fluffy category... oh well. ^^"
Anyway, this is the second installment in a project I'm doing for the 12 days preceding Christmas; each day, I write a fic and draw a picture for a different series, and the number of characters in each work correspond to the day's number. Today is day two, and the series is Care Bears, with the characters being Christy and Dark Heart~
