It was five minutes to six and dinnertime, when Emma came out of her room. She walked to Carmilla´s door and knocked.
"Carmilla? It´s me, Emma."
"Please, come in."
Carmilla´s room was beautiful, with ornate wallpaper, the landscape paintings and curtain-framed mirror above the bed. Carmilla sat in the metal bathtub, washing.
"How pretty dresses!" Emma walked to the bed and lifted the blue gown.
"You may take one if you like." Carmilla rose from the bathtub and wrapped towel around her hips. "The blue colour one contrasts nicely that red shade on your hair."
"Oh thank you, Carmilla!" Emma opened her dress and dropped it to the floor, revealing her caramel-coloured satin camisole and bloomers. "I would like to ask something."
"What?" Carmilla sat at the vanity and started to brush her wavy hair.
"The young man in the ball... what was he like? Your dance partner?"
Carmilla smiled. "He was potty-mouthed filth, and I don´t want to swim in the sewers. He hated women, especially fat and "uppity" variety, like Queen Victoria. Why?"
"I heard he was found dead in the forest. He was bitten."
Carmilla turned around. "Bitten?"
"Yes. Bitten to the throat. He had also lost lot of blood."
Carmilla turned back to the mirror and continued to brush her hair. "Really?"'
"Peasants say it was the vampire. "
"Then we may get some excitement to this boring countryside!" Carmilla threw the brush to the vanity and started to chase Emma who "escaped" running over the bed. Carmilla caught her and the girls fell to the bed, giggling.
In the same time the gong was pealed in the downstairs, telling that it was six o´clock.
"We must go to the dinner!" Emma said.
She couldn´t understand why Carmilla started to laugh.
