Firestar&Graystripe: You've got a friend in me

Firestar sat at the edge of the Thunderclan part of the lake. She stared out at horizon, as the sun slowly began to set. He stared up at the sky longingly. He missed his best friend. He missed Graystripe.

He and Graystripe had been through everything together, when he was accepted into the clan, when GRaystripe fell in love with and lost Silverstream, when Bluestar went nuts, when he fought Tigerclaw, when all the clans faought Scourge.

But he was gone. Gone. Disappeared. All because of stupid, stupid twolegs! He filled with rage as he thought of his days as a kittypet. He couldn't believe he had lived with them before!

He gazed onto the horizon, and sang, in barely more than a whisper.

"You've got a friend in me, He began,
"You've got a friend in me
When the road looks rough ahead,"
he sang, and remembered all the times they'd faught, and all the rough times they'd gotten through. Together.
"And you're miles and miles
From your nice warm den,"

Graystripe was gone. They were all "miles and miles from their nice warm dens" in a way, as they had left the old forest for their new home, aaround the very lake that Firestar was sitting by.
"Just remember what your old pal said

Tom, you've got a friend in me!
You've got a friend in me
!" he sang on, a sad tone in his voice.

"You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me
You've got troubles, well I've got 'em too
There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you,"

Really. There wasn't. Firestar knew, deep down, that he would die for Graystripe. He thought of all the close calls the two of them had had. Together.
"We stick together and we see it through,"

They're that word again. Together. They were supposed to get through things together. But that would happen anymore. Because Graystripe was gone,
"You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me!"

"Some other folks might be
A little bit smarter than I am"

Somehow that reminded him of all Graystripes jokes..how he missed them…
"Bigger and stronger too,"
And then, he thought of all the times they'd faced stronger enemies than themselves. Together.

"Maybe
But none of them will ever love you the way I do
It's me and you
And as the years go by
Toms, our friendship will never die"

And deep down, in his very heart, his very spirit and soul, Firestar knew that was true. No matter what happen. Graystripe would always be his best friend,
"You're gonna see
It's our destiny,"

There, he thought of all the prophecies made and fulfilled during his time in the forest,
"You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me!"

He sang, and then finished, his voice dieing, a raspy sound coming from his throat,
"You've got a friend in me."

And with that, he watched the sun finally disappear, as if drowning in the night sky.
