Truthfully, he hadn't expected this. Yelling, flailing, maybe even punching. But complete and utter silence? It was, well, it was unexpected.

When he said those words: "I like you" in a way that couldn't be misunderstood, maybe perhaps in a time that wasn't entirely right. It had seemed right, they were alone, after all. Then again, nothing concerning Watanuki and intimacy (no matter how small the form may be) would ever be right.

And now they stood in the middle of the deserted street, the sun hanging low in the sky making their shadows abnormally long. His eyes never left Watanuki's face after he spoke. Watanuki's, however, were trained on the ground as if wishing for a hole to open and somehow swallow him whole. His lashes dusted over his cheeks in a rapid succession of blinks before his eyes just squeezed shut. A light flush colored his skin.

Doumeki could probably easily guess what he was thinking. Though, with the silence it was a little harder to wager. As nice as it was, he had a feeling he should probably protect himself in some way. It almost felt like the calm before the storm.

He sighed slightly and stepped a bit further away. When it hit, he didn't want to be that close. Watanuki's school bag that had been carelessly dropped was picked up and tucked under his arm along with his own. As much as he liked the silence, it was starting to become a bit unnerving. He wondered if he should break the spell and shatter everything.

"Oi."

Nothing.

"Oi," he said again, reaching over and poking the other boy in the forehead.

That seemed to work because no sooner after the first tap, his hand was slapped away. Watanuki glared at him, his eyes narrowed and hoping against all hope that this look would be the one that finally killed the pompous, obnoxious bastard. "Tch," he spit out.

He stomped off, heading towards his apartment without saying anything further. Doumeki followed, remaining just a few paces behind. He could hear Watanuki grumbling to himself, shortly thereafter his arms began flying around in wild gestures. Then, of course, it wasn't long after that Watanuki spun around and thrust a finger in his direction, stopping just short of actually jabbing him in the chest. "NOTHING HAD BETTER BE BROKEN IN MY BAG!!"

"…"

There was just a hint of a smile on Doumeki's lips as Watanuki turned around and began walking again. That was as good of an accept as he was going to get.
