The 88st Hunger Games
Chapter1: The Reaping
The sun rose high over district 6 and everything was quiet. This was because everyone was most likely asleep. Everyone but Jay. She had been up for hours out of nerves. Today was the reaping and every year was the same. It was terrible having to watch kids go to the capital and almost never come back and the silence that fallowed the reaping was filled with sadness and dispare. Normaly the only sounds on that day were the helpless weeping of the tributes parents. Jay would never want to have to go through that. To whatch her child be taken away and to maybe never see them again. To feel so helpless bacause you cant do anything to help them.
Jay sighed as a cool breaze blew over her. She was sitting outside her father's small house witch she shared with her 3 brothers, Johnathan who was 12, Sage who was 13 and his twin, Leon who was also 13 and her father. It stunk that a terrible day had to be held in such nice weather. It would make much more since if it were gray and rainy. She heard the front door open and close. Her father sits down next to her and puts a hand on her back. We sat there in silence for a while before her father spoke up.
"Its about time to start getting ready." He told her in his deep voice.
"I know but i wish i didnt have to." She told him looking around the diserted streets. Right about now people would be getting up and getting ready. She stood up and walked back into the house. She opened a trunk at the end of her bed and looked at the outfits. She picked up a green satin dress. It was her mothers. She Held it to her chest, but then stood up and put it on. She looked in the mirror at her self. Ther dress was plain but it was beautiful and it fit her perfectly. She brushed her hair and pulled on her brown sandles. She helped her brothers get ready and about 20 minutes later they were ready to leave.
Jay stood between two girls who both looked like they were going to throw up from fear. A squat old lady with bright blue hair and dark blue lips stick walked onto the stage with two large glass bowls. Jay knew that one of the bowls contained the girls names and the other one contained the boys names.
"Welcome! I dont think i need to introduce myself." The lady said flashing a briliant white smile. Jay reconised her as Nina. Nina was from the capital and she came every year to draw the names of the tributes.
"First off..." And she went on with the same speach she did every year. Jay looked around for her brothers. She found them figeting around. They found her eyes and Leon gave her a small smile, Sage's lip quiverd a bit and Kane gave her a sad look. She faced forword just as Nina finished her speach.
"Now for the tributes. First I will call up the girl." Nina said with another blinding smile. She reached her perfectly manicured hand into the glass bowl with the girls names. Jay's heart spead up with fear of being called. She took a slip of paper from the middle and put it up close to her eyes so that she could read it.
"JAY AVON!" She called in a loud voice. "Please come up." Jay's heart stoped. She walked up in a daze. The boys name was called but she didnt hear. They shook hands and she put on a fake smile. She looked over the crowd and found the devistated lookes of her family and friends. She was lead away and her last thought as she was lead away from the stage was that at least it wasnt one of my brothers up here.
