My friend Raykja gave me this challenge. Write a fic inspired by the Song Hurtful by Erik Hassle. The pairing has to be Chouji X Kurenai. I have a 30 minute time limit.
this was a little tough for me cause I can't see Kurenai with anyone but Asuma.
WARNING - Spoliers. If you are not up to date on Shippuden, consider yourself warned.

Kurenai let her head rest against the cool window. She watched Chouji's back disappear into the neighbourhood below. He had just been here, helping her young son to bed. She never expected something so innocent turn into something so complex.
"Asuma, I'm sorry." Kurenai whispered; her breath fogged the window.
Losing Asuma was the most painful thing she had ever had to go though. Her heart cried for him every lonely night. She had refused to wash her linens out of fear of losing his sent which still lingered on them. That was five years ago. She knew she had to grow stronger, get over the loss, if for anyone, for the child she was carrying. The child was all she had left of Asuma.
Time passed, the child was born, and Kurenai couldn't have been more grateful for the support from team ten. Ino, Shikamaru and Chouji promised Asuma they would look after her and the then unborn child. They were true to their word. But time went on, Shikamaru was sent off on missions. Ino, eventually married. And Chouji, well Chouji stayed by her side. He looked after her son as if he was his own. Chouji never once forgot his birthday, never once forgot an appointment, and never once forgot a first. Chouji was always there.
Today was the first day of Ninja school. Like a proud father, Chouji took her son to the school. Her son was so happy, walking hand in hand with the chubby man. Kurenai wouldn't admit it at the time but she was happy too.
Things between them developed so slowly. Kurenai didn't know when or even how, but it happened.
"Asuma, I'm sorry."
She still loves him. She always would, the father of her only son, her first love, her beloved husband. There would never be a day where she didn't think of him, there would never come a time when she would stop loving him, but she knew she had to move on, she had to live her life.
Kurenai let her fingers linger over the small box which Chouji left behind. She opened it again, the light reflected off the gold accessory. Chouji's worlds still played in her mind. "You don't have to give me an answer right away." His smile was genuine.
"Asuma, I'm sorry, but I hope you can be happy for us."
She still loved Asuma with all of her heart, but she had also fallen in love with another.
