It seemed as if Saige Copeland's body was in a petrified state. There in the coffin lay her life's blood, Mimi Copeland. "MIMI!" Saige finally struggled to get the words out, her face full of hot tears "MIMI! WAKE UP!" She shook the coffin, her body racked with horrible, deathly sobs. Her mother pulled her back, stroking her hair, saying everything will be okay. One thing was for sure, nothing would be okay.

So much had happened since the art parade 2 years ago, that was behind Saige now. She was 12, Mimi was dead, and Tessa had moved to California. She stared out the window of Mimi's ranchita, in the studio where she and Mimi painted. On her easel was the half-finished painting of Rembrandt, tongue hanging out, eyes bright. In a fit of anger, Saige threw the painting of the easel and hurled it at the wall. Undried color flew through the air, splattering the carpet in a whimsy of blue, yellow, green.

"Saige paints the sky" Mimi had murmured those words in the rehab center 2 years ago. "Saige paints the sky…" Saige whispered, rain pelting the window in her room. All Saige felt like doing now was painting the sky gray.

That was really short, but there will be a sequel with chapters soon, this was the prologue, remember!
