a/n. Hello! This is my fourth fanfiction, so I can no longer say to "go easy on me" haha. So to clear a couple things up-this is Hogwarts in our time. The trio and their kids will not be mentioned (probably) because the kids aren't even old enough to go to Hogwarts yet (look it up!) New characters!
My name is Kia Elizabeth Tomich. I'm eleven years old, and I just received a letter from an owl, and it's noon. You probably think I'm mad. Maybe I am.
I was out on the porch, reading an incredible fantasy novel. I imagined how cool it would be to live in that kind of world where nothing was impossible. Where life wasn't so perfect and happy. Where the hero faces hardships, which almost stops them and instead makes them stronger.
Then a brown old swooped in and dropped a yellowed letter on my lap. I looked up at it with raised eyebrows. Then the owl flew away as fast as it had arrived.
I gulp and turn the letter over in my hands. "Hogwarts School Of Witchcraft and Wizardry?" I say to myself. "Is it a joke?"
Troubled, I open the front door and walk back into the house and into the kitchen. "Mum? Dad?" I ask. They put their newspapers down and look at me. My mother has long, light brown hair and small brown eyes. She wore stylish black glasses. Studying the lines on her face, I could tell she was tired. She must have stayed up late working on her book. My father is older. He has grayish, sandy blonde hair and deep brown eyes. He's lighthearted and kind, and I admire him very much, even more than my mom sometimes.
In fact, I look like him more. I have normal blonde hair and freckles. My eyes are brown like his.
"The weirdest thing just happened to me!"
I see something in my father's eyes. I didn't know what it was, but he was thinking about something for a split second, something bad.
I narrow my eyes at him for a moment. "Well what happened?" he asks innocently.
"I, I was sitting out on the porch, reading, when an owl swoops in and dropped a letter on my lap! Then it stared at me for a moment and just left! And then, I turned the letter over, and you know what it said? It said it was from Hogwarts School of Wi-"
My father cut into my sentence frantically. "Er, gee, darling, what a great book you were reading! What's the title?" he asks with forced cheer. Irritated, I reply, "But it wasn't in the book! It was-"
"A dream! You must have fallen asleep out there in your big comfortable chair! Very peaceful outside, yes?"
I stop. I look at him, for a few moments. "What are you hiding, Dad?"
He doesn't say anything. Instead, he runs his finger through his hair and sighs.
Mum looks over at him questionably. He stills fails to speak. I narrow my eyes again and throw the letter, (there's the proof, Dad!) on the dining room table.
"I don't even care about the letter anymore," I say, storming off to my bedroom.
