Summary: What if Anna had reacted differently to Ben being in the secret service?
A/N: I know this seems a little corny, but give it a chance anyway. Also, if you'd like to see more chapters to come, write me some reviews.
Chapter 1
"I didn't mean for it to happen, but it did. I fell in love with you."
Anna stared at Ben for a moment before bursting out into hysterical laughter.
"I knew you were secret service from the beginning," she said smiling. "Why else would you have followed me all this way? It was an awful lot more trouble than the average Joe would have gone to to keep me safe. Don't get me wrong you did a great job and everything, but it was kind of obvious."
Ben stared at her in shock for several seconds before Anna waved her hand in front of his face saying, "Ben! Hello!" He went to all that work and she'd known the whole time. He snapped back to reality after hearing his name called several times from what seemed like at first a great distance away, but it got steadily closer each time. Anna took his hand and began leading him through the throng of people.
In what seemed like no time flat, they were standing in a clearing waiting for the helicopter to arrive. Right as it started to descend Anna pulled Ben close to her and whispered in his ear, "Promise me you'll come find me, no matter what." He put his arms around her one more time and nodded his agreement. Then she was gone, and the helicopter was so high he could barely make it out.
About a week later Anna and her father were still not on speaking terms and she and her mother were on far less than amicable ones. She was sitting in her room alone, which she seemed to be doing more of lately, when she heard shouting out on the front lawn. This could be interesting, she thought, we haven't had a riot or a protest for a couple of days now. She went to her window and decided to take a look. Before she knew what she was doing she was down the stairs and out the door.
Ben stood just on the inside of the gate to the white house. "Please," he said, "I'm secret service. I can show you my ID."
"We're sorry, Sir," replied the guards, "but your not cleared for entry. We're going to have to ask you to exit the facility."
"No, wait!" there was a cry from behind them. Anna came careening down the lawn and ran straight into Ben's arms nearly toppling him over as she did so. "Ben!" she cried, "You came!"
He smiled and said, "You seem surprised to see me. I did make a promise you know."
She shrugged, "Most people around here aren't really big on keeping their promises."
"What the hell is this?" The call came from the front steps of the house where President Foster stood.
