Disclaimer: Les Misérablesbelongs entirely to Victor Hugo…I'm just enjoying it.

This fic: It's not much, but I like it.

Everything you ever wished for.

The night air was cool and crisp as he stepped out of the Corinthe wine-shop leaving most of his friends inside, drinking and reminiscing, trying not to think about how it may be the very last night they would be alive for. The next morning they would fight on the barricade that they had built, trying to ensure a better future for the people of France, a fight that may possibly take all or most of their lives.

He glanced up at the starry night sky before turning his gaze to one of the few people already outside.

Stood staring at the barricade was Enjolras, his friend and the leader of Les Amis De L'A-B-C. His golden blonde hair shone in the moonlight and even though it appeared that he was lost in thought he was fully aware of Combeferre's approach.

"You should be resting" the blonde said quietly "Tomorrow in nearly here"

"As should you" he quipped back with a small smile.

"I doubt I could rest even if I tried" Enjolras replied before sighing, "Mathieu are we doing the right thing?"

Combeferre was startled, not only by the use of his first name but also by the doubt that his friend was expressing.

"What do you mean?" he asked carefully.

"This. Are we really going to achieve anything…am I just leading them all to their deaths?"

Combeferre was shaken. "Enjolras, I know that you do not truly believe that"

"A part of me does though, and I can't help but wonder whether that part is right"

"Enjolras…Timothée…even though our opinions on how to achieve change have often differed this truly is the right thing; we're all here fighting for the same thing, the same goal, a better future. You gave them the chance to leave but they did not wish to take it because they believe in this, in us… in you" he paused "It is only right that you should have fears and doubts, I have them too, but my faith in this revolution and in you is stronger than any doubt that I could possibly have. Tomorrow we will all be here on this fighting for the people because a new dawn is coming, just like you said, and even though we may not live to see this new world it will come…and it will be everything you wished it to be"

Enjolras smiled softly, "Good speech. Maybe you should have been the one in charge"

"No thank you, I have seen what it has done to you" he replied, only partly teasing, as he had indeed seen all the worries and stresses that had been laid upon his friend's young shoulders, and had worried about him a great deal.

Enjolras was one of the youngest of their group, but sometimes they forgot that. He had the air of someone who had already been through a revolution, but he was still so young; he shouldn't have to have such worries weighing him down.

Enjolras turned to face him with a gentle, honest smile, "Thank you…for staying"

"I would not be anywhere else" he replied honestly. His place was at Enjolras' side, and only death would take him from that place.

Happy Barricade Day.
