It was the final battle against Voldemort. While all of the Witches and Wizards were defending Hogwarts the house elves were gathering in the kitchen, getting ready to attack.

" Is everybody armed?" asked Dobby who was leading the house elf rebellion.
" Yes Dobby every house elf we could gather is armed with either a knife or a fork." Replied Kreacher the second in command.
" Do they suspect us?" asked Dobby.
" No Dobby, no witch or wizard has any idea about what is going to happen." Replied Winkey who had been spying on professors all year.
" Excellent" said Dobby.
"House elves! Tonight is the night we kill ALL witches and Wizards! They have treated us like as slaves. But after tonight those who survive will bow down to us. The time off the wizards has come to an end and the time of the House Elves had just began!" screamed Dobby as he led an army of House Elves towards the battlefield.
" KILL THEM ALL, KILL THEM ALL, KILL THEM ALL," they shouted as the left the castle grounds and stepped onto the battlefield.
