Ruby's rested on Sapphire's chest. She stared up into the sky as his head moved up and down to Sapphire's breathing. She looked up as Sapphire's gem on her open palm began to glow, sending blue light into the night sky. An image appeared in the light of Ruby. As the image shook Ruby realised that it was from her point of view. She grinned and rolled over on the grass, resting her head in her hands, looking up at the projected dream. In it she saw them holding hands, walking through tall grass and huge flowers. With a start Ruby realised that the dream was about when they first fused and spent time on the earth, before humanity even emerged. She watched as she twirled Sapphire around and the dream became white. It faded and revealed a purple hand, dotted with specks of red and blue. The dream zoomed out as it showed Rose, Pearl, Bismuth and many other Crystal Gems appear in the dream. Sapphire smiled and rolled over, Ruby caught her arm as she did, stopping the projection from moving. As she grinned up at it, watching them laugh and talk. Then she noticed that in the distance of the dream there were little black figures approached them. Dozens, hundreds, thousands. She stared as they picked up speed, racing towards the startled gems. She saw Garnet unfuse, and Sapphire veer left and right as Ruby smashed the black figures away from her. Suddenly she heard a shout from it and saw Rose move a bubbled gem into her own gem. Now she knew that that gem was Bismuth. Dream Sapphire spun round as she saw gem after gem be poofed and shattered. She saw Pearl leap in front of Rose as she fought a colossal Amethyst fusion. She reached as her gem dropped to the ground. She cried out as Ruby narrowly missed the fusion's giant boot coming down as she slid under it, scooping up Pearl's gem. The dream faded out even more as the crowd of figures grew smaller and smaller. Eventually it zoomed back in to see Rose fighting Jasper and Pearl newly regenerated, desperately try to help. Real Ruby saw dream Ruby off in the distance, she frowned. In real life she wasn't there. She was beside Sapphire. Suddenly as the sky grew bright white and Jasper teleported away, Rose formed a gargantuan shield in front of the three gems, Ruby being cut off in the distance. Sapphire ran forwards to the wall of the shield as Ruby leapt towards them, but the white light encompassing her. Ruby lay, stunned as the dream flew into shapes flying about and figures contorting and growing. Suddenly she snapped out of it and scrambled over, shaking Sapphire.
'Sapphire! Sapphire! Wake up!' Sapphire awoke with a jolt, screaming. She saw Ruby and stopped, wrapping her arms around her. Ruby squeezed her.
'It's okay Sapphire, I'm here.' He reassured her while she panted.
'I- the shield, you were-'
'I know. I saw. I'm okay Sapphire, I wasn't really there. Sapphire calmed down, still shaking as Ruby wiped her tears away.
'But the others were…' Her eye teared up, she started crying softly again. Ruby hugged her tightly.
'I know.'
