I am a huge fan of Once Upon A Time and The Avengers, and I find Loki and Rumpelstiltskin (who is "the Beast" in Once Upon A Time's version of Beauty and the Beast, to those of you who aren't familiar with that show) very similar as characters, so I listened to the little voice in the back of my mind and wrote a Loki/Belle fanfic.

Let me know what you think of it! :)

Belle couldn't help feeling sorry for Loki as Thor practically dragged him away. The blonde god's eyes were cold as he gazed on his brother, and Belle's heart broke. She knew that Loki would pay dearly for what he had done…

She ducked farther behind the tree she was watching from behind when Loki turned her way, but was too late to escape his piercing gaze. She bit her lip and looked down briefly before meeting his eyes, trying to show in this one look that she did not hate him for almost destroying Manhattan… even when just watching the TV screen, which caught only brief glimpses of him, she was able to see that he was more than just the person who wanted to start a war. There was something driving him… something he felt he couldn't control, and her heart had broken for this man.

She had known he would lose… it always happened that way… and she had known everybody would hate him. A poor example from humanity, really… to hate the very thing that you call evil because of hate…

Yes, Loki wasn't blameless at all. The casualty lists hadn't even finished coming in, and Belle knew they were extensive… but she wanted to know what made him come do this. She saw there was something within this man… this god… something that drove him. She wanted to understand.

So she met his icy eyes steadily. He raised his eyebrows as if he were surprised. She nodded and smiled softly… there was one person who did not hate him.

Just before the two gods disappeared into a rush of blue light she saw his eyes soften, and an expression not unlike hope crossed his face.

It didn't take long to reach Asgard, and Loki found himself before his father. The love he used to feel emanating from his adoptive father was gone, and all he knelt before was a judge. Even his mother, standing beside Odin, was cold and distant.

He bowed his head, defeated. There was no hope left, none at all. He was finished. He would be condemned to a fate worse than death, he was sure of it. Nobody could understand him, and nobody ever would.

But then he remembered the girl he had seen just before leaving Earth. She had not looked at him with fear and revulsion! She was hiding, but she seemed to be hiding from "the Avengers" not from him… and she had looked at him with such sweetness and warmth… such understanding.

He knew he would never see her again, he would never even know her name… but maybe if there was one who was not repulsed by what he had done, who sought to understand the reasons he did what he did… perhaps there was hope after all.

He gazed up at the man he had once yearned to please, and he felt the skin around his lips tremble with emotion. He no longer cared to win the praise of this man… all he wanted was to see the clear honest blue eyes of the girl… see the warmth… the hope.

Perhaps he would be killed, but if it was at all possible, he would find her… he would make her understand why he did what he did, and then allow her to judge him.

He had a feeling her judgment would be more fair than that of the gods that surrounded him.
