For some reason I'm addicted to writing fanfics about how Masaomi and Mikado fall in love.
Disclaimer: The characters in this story do not belong to me, they belong to Durarara!
It starts off like any other day, with Masaomi pointing out Anri's chest and continuing to talk about how attractive he finds her. Mikado doesn't notice until later that the whole time he hadn't once looked at Anri; that he had been too caught up in admiring Masaomi's smile instead.
That's the first time that the thought that he might like boys instead of girls comes to him.
The second time he catches himself staring at Masaomi, it's the weekend and the other boy is sprawled across his floor with his hair pooling around his head on the floor.
Mikado wonders if maybe he's only interested in Masaomi.
When he finds himself staring at Masaomi for the third time and all the other boy is doing is grinning as he beats Mikado at a video game, he tells himself he probably needs to talk to someone about this.
After a lot of contemplating, He ends up going to Celty.
He can't help being relieved when she opens the door to the apartment and tells him that Shinra is out at the moment. He spends an hour there talking to Celty and doing a lot of google searches. At the end of it all, he leaves the apartment with the answer to his question.
He's demisexual. And in love with Masaomi. For some reason, it's not really that much of a shock. He's always thought Masaomi was amazing.
It's when they're all eating lunch on the roof at school three weeks later when he accidentally lets it slip that he's in love with someone and that that someone isn't Anri. Masaomi gets a look on his face like he's flipping through a mental book of all of the people Mikado interacts with and trying to pinpoint which one it is. It doesn't even faze him when Mikado admits that it's a boy and Mikado can't help but be extremely relieved. However, that relief doesn't last long when Masaomi stares at him with a look that says he might of just figured him out. It's also a look of slight shock. Mikado makes up an excuse and quickly leaves the roof to hide in his classroom for the rest of the day. He didn't even get to finish his food.
He manages to avoid Masaomi's questions for about a week before the other boy grabs his wrist to stop him from walking in the hallway after lunch. Mikado can't help the dread he feels as he stops in the middle of the hall and turns to look at his best friend. When Masaomi looks at him with a seriousness in his eyes that Mikado rarely sees and says 'Are you in love with me?', all Mikado can do is nod helplessly and whisper 'yeah'. He tries to tell himself it doesn't hurt when Masaomi lets go of his wrist and wordlessly goes back to his classroom.
It's three days later when Mikado hears knocking at his door while he's laying on his floor and contemplating how to get Masaomi to talk to him again. He's confused when he opens the door to see Masaomi standing there, but he's also immensely relieved. He almost cries when the other boy tells him he's sorry and hugs him to him tightly.
However, the tears do come when Masaomi whispers that he loves him too.
For some reason, Masaomi takes to holding his hand at lunch and after school when they walk home. Mikado doesn't think he's ever been happier.
