A/N: OMG I love The Hunger Games and after I finished the first book, I was wondering, did Katniss's dad have anything to do with the Hunger Games? Was their some secret before Katniss was chosen for the games? And was Katniss's dad's death an "Accident"?

As I walk into the living room, I see a ticket sitting on the table. I sigh. It's December again. Our turn on the dreaded island once more. You see, every month, one district's organisation travels to "The Island". "The Island", is an isolated place, far out at sea, where we vote for the children who will go into the Hunger Games that year. The poor kids who get the most votes were sent into the Games that year, and it was also our task to find out their weaknesses, and develop devices that would be used against them that year.
Our secret organisation consisted of workers who owned a local shop or is a leader of society in each district, and we all hated it. But, who amongst us had a choice? Running the coal mine could provide an income, but that alone could never support a whole family like mine. Working on "The Island" was just another of the Capitol's cruel games, but we were payed fairly for it. And, it is my one chance to try and protect Katniss, who will be turning twelve next year, and in the future, even Prim, against the horrendous event that is the Hunger Games.
Katniss
When I wake up, I see my sister sitting in a chair beside my bed, staring at me. "Has dad gone yet?" I asked her, "Yes, he said if he waited for you to wake up he would miss his meeting". My dad, Ash Everdeen owns one of the mining sights, even though we live in Seam we do we pretty well compared to the other locals around here. Every year he goes on a business trip to the Capitol, to give President Snow an update on Districts 12 progress for the year. I wish I could go with him I also wanted to go to the Capitol and see how stupid things are there. I guess I might next year, if I get chosen The Hunger Games, which would I couldn't even bare.
"I've got to go after him, I didn't get to say goodbye" I say to Prim. "No Katniss, he's probably getting on the train right about now." "He's got still in the meeting, it's ten o'clock, he gets on the train in fifteen minutes. If I go now, I will be able to catch him." I run out the door and start to head for Justice building, when I see my dad by the docks. I wonder what he's doing there. I thought that he would be going on the train. I duck behind a crate only to see a glimpse of the boat. It has the capitol seal on it, but why would they take a boat to the Capitol when it's just on the other side of Panem? After he's got on, I climb onto the back of the boat, curious of where it might be going, if it's the Capitol I'll be seriously confused.
