This is an AVATARDeep Space 9 crossover with an interesting twist.
The truth of what happened on Pandora was a tad... warped... in the 5 year journey-home that the skypeople took post-war.
These guys are genuinely bad people. James Cameron made a good point of explaining that. So, it would stand to reason that when they got home, they didn't tell everyone, "Yeah, we screwed up. We got our asses handed to us by those blue monkeys. They sent us on our way, empty-handed."
Instead, they formed a story to tell everyone at home about "The savages who couldn't reason, the cannibals that they /tried/ to make friends with, but who were more interested in "Less talk, more kill."
Since then, back on earth, the Humans-returned were praised as heroes, those who died on Pandora were martyrs, the Na'vi were vicious monsters, and Jakesully was one of the biggest traitors in Earth's history.
Obviously, the Planet's done some growing-up since. The new "Federation of Planets" began to understand that what the Na'vi did, they only did because they were in a violent evolutionary state, and it was wrong to interfere in the first place. So, Pandora had been put under Federation protection.
The Na'vi became famous to the Federation people as:
Savages
Secular
Cannibals
Primitive
Unreasonable
Pre-language
Pre-logic
But what happens when a Na'vi girl 'mysteriously' turns up on DS9 and RADICALLY contradicts the pre-fined concepts held by Federation textbooks?
Does this mean that some of the greatest Federation heroes were liars? Oh, and the Cardassians are somehow involved. You'll find out.
LASTLY, I took a few liberties with the story, for the nitpickers:
1. Took liberties with the function of Credits and currency.
2. Took liberties with the ship layout.
3. Took liberties with Federation-pandoran timeline interaction.
4. Kind of (Sorta) removed the works of Grace Augustine from existance.
5. Messed around with the function of some of the machinery on Terok Nor, just a warning for those people on that I know are also enrolled in an STARFLEET Tech/Engineering class.
I'm sure this story will be as fun to read as it was to write. Really, it was ALOT of fun to write.
WARNING: There is some moral lesson content going on here, including such concepts as "A harsh truth vs a Good Lie" and "The question of inherent rights."
