Naruto went outside to try to find his friend. He had a mission later today and he wanted to ask him something – before he forgot, anyway.
Wondering around, he looked to where Team 8's old training ground was, and if he was right…. Aha! There he was!
"Shika! ShikaShikaShikaShikaShika!~"
The lazy man didn't even tilt his head slightly towards the loud presence, just continuing to lay there, his eyes closed as if to clock out the world and all the annoyances it contained. Namely an orange loving, hyperactive ninja. A ninja who also acted like an overly excitable puppy given half a chance (or anything shiny…).
"Shikaaaaaaaaaaa~!"
Naruto knew that nobody could ignore him for long – he knew which buttons to push - and which to hammer - after all.
Shikamar sighed. "What, Naruto?"
Naruto's elation at being so easily acknowledged was swiftly killed. Just what was it that he wanted to ask? Knowing better than to say that to his friends face, he laughed and scratched the back of his neck, trying to quickly come up with something to say….
"You're hair kinda looks like a pineapple."
This shocked Shikamaru enough that he actually opened both eyes, to stare at Naruto in complete bewilderment. "… You came to find me, to comment on my hair?"
Naruto got the distinct impression that if he answered 'yes' he'd soon find himself testing the Kyuubi's healing capabilities, or trapped in shadows and immobile for the next several hours. His only alternative was to fess up, or run.
Decisions, decisions…
Seeing Shikamaru still had that 'Good-god-you're-such-an-imbecile' look, Naruto tried for distraction.
"Hey Shika?"
"What."
"Come get ramen with me."
A raised eyebrow greeted this offer.
"I'm going on a mission later and I want some and some company."
Shikamaru nodded. Naruto sighed. Safe.
