Title Reborn
Rating T, may go up to M later.
Pairing For now, Evie/Rick, but there may be a hint of Evie/Imhotep in later chapters...
Author's Note I figured if Nefertiri, Anck-su-namun, and all had reincarnations, then... Why not Imhotep too? I'm not quite sure how often I'll update this, since I wrote it on a whim; but I do have a little bit planned out. Enjoy.
Prologue
Cairo, Egypt, 1941
She had seen him way before he had seen her. Evelyn had to doubletake---after all, it couldn't be him, there was no way possible. He was dead, gone for good, and would never, ever interfere with her life again. Or so she had thought, at least. Or so she had hoped.
And yet---there he was, every feature perfectly inscribed which led her to wonder how the hell he could've risen again without her---without the O'Connells--- knowing. It just didn't make sense. If what Evie was seeing was true, then, wouldn't Egypt be in utter chaos right about now?
Almost as if he had felt her eyes on him, he turned around, glancing up to look at her--- only, this was a different look than she remembered. This one wasn't brimming over with hate or anger, nor was it full of the usual smugness present when he felt he had won. No, it was simply a look. An innocent, casual stranger's gaze.
Evelyn dropped everything she had been carrying, her mouth hanging open in shock as she let out a small, confused whisper, "Imhotep."
His eyebrows drew together as if he didn't know what she was talking about, as if he didn't understand; only, what happened next almost convinced Evie that he really had no idea--- and that maybe, this wasn't him at all. She had quite obviously lost her mind.
With a bit of a bewildered stare, he said in perfect, fluent english, "Sorry, I didn't quite catch that."
