This is my first Glee fic. I've honestly been obsessing over this pairing. This is mostly Blaine musing. I do not own anything, of course.

"He Hated Himself"

Kurt Hummel was definitely a fast learner.

Blaine watched Kurt walk down the Dalton hallways, his blazer perfectly fitted, a just contented smile fixed to his face. In Warbler rehearsals, Kurt smiled politely and nodded appropriately. Vocally, Kurt blended beautifully, just as Blaine always knew he would.

Kurt fit perfectly into Dalton's mold.

Kurt fit perfectly into Dalton's mold, and it made Blaine sick.

It wasn't that he wanted Kurt to return to McKinley. He loved having the younger boy so close to him. But, the way Kurt was forcing himself to fit into the masses of navy blue and red jackets made him feel like Kurt was still miles away.

Blaine missed the bright-eyed spy he had met a few weeks ago, the brave boy who had lost his first real kiss to a closeted bastard, the Kurt who had grinned and laughed and cried to him.

Now, he didn't see that until they were off the Dalton campus, at a café for a weekend lunch or coffee after class.

When they were off campus, and Kurt was sipping his usual skinny white chocolate mocha, and they spoke passionately about Patti LuPone, Stephen Sondheim, gay marriage, Lady Gaga, or Hot Tub Time Machine, he was beautiful. His personality burst out the room. His smiles reached his eyes. The expressions that never quite came to fruition in mahogany hallways or ivy covered courtyards were spread brazenly across his face. Blaine loved this Kurt, the real Kurt.

At school, however, Kurt followed every piece of advice Blaine had ever given him, followed it to the letter. He wore the uniform and fit it well. He didn't attract attention by being too forward, too excited, or too beautiful.

Blaine had helped Kurt leave the school where he was seen as a bottom feeder or a nothing. He had helped him find a safe place from people who tormented him, shoved him into lockers and abused him emotionally and physically. He had helped him become a prestige worthy model of what was expected at Dalton.

And frankly, Blaine hated himself for it.
