First Merlin fiction
Saw another version of this, and wanted to write my own.

Le Morte d'Merlin
He knew he was dying. This fact had him with the force of a warhorse the moment the poison reacted with his body. He'd just been denying this fact for the last couple of days. He couldn't deny it anymore.
It was getting really hard to breathe.
He knew what it was like to watch people die from battles, diseases, old age, and everything in between. Death was a part of life, and he'd seen his share of it. But every time, a small part of him was glad that it wasn't him on the deathbed. He didn't have that luxury anymore.
It was an odd feeling, dying. He couldn't feel his arms and legs anymore. He could just make out the fact that he was on a bed. Almost all sound had disappeared a while ago. Fluid was in his ears, he was sure of it. What the fluid was, however, was a different story. He could make out voices, if he worked at it, but that was tiring. Gaius was there a lot and Gwen too. He even thought Morgana had made a visit. He knew that Arthur had left to help him, and he had even helped him there, but he knew that Arthur wouldn't get back in time.
It was getting so hard to breathe, and he was so tired.
So tired.
Death was something that had touched him quite personally. Father had died a couple of months before he was born. It had been bittersweet for Mother, a constant reminder of the one person that she loved that she couldn't save. Couldn't have. She had said that he looked exactly like Father, once.
Gaius, is that you? You have it? I think it's too late.
So…..tired…..
It was an odd feeling, death. The pain had faded away a while ago. Everything faded away eventually. The pain, the exhaustion, the voices, the permeating worry. Was that light? But he hadn't even opened his eyes. Nah. He didn't want to go there.
"You should be ashamed of yourself! You're old enough to be her grandfather!"
If you can't tell, it follows canon, so happy ending! I couldn't quite find the exact quotes, so I had to go from memory. And I thought the way I ended it was funny.
This is a one-shot, so no more chapters.
