Just Three Words
"...I didn't mean it."
Please. I know where your loyalty is. You always said you loved Giovanni more than anything. I know you meant everything you said to him. You betrayed me.
"I loved you..."
I loved you too. But then you went ahead and blamed everything on me. Like you usually did. Except... you blamed your fault on me. You're the one who killed Officer Jenny. Not me.
"I'm really sorry."
Sorry's not good enough, Cassidy. It will never be good enough, not anymore. You cost me everything. Do you know what Giovanni did? He took away my job, Cassidy. We're not supposed to kill anyone.
"Don't go."
I don't have a choice.
"...Can you forgive me?"
Not this time.
"I still love you."
I don't love you anymore. Don't you get that? You ruined our trust.
"Look at me, Butch. Please..."
So I did.
"What could have I done? You know what the Boss does to female workers..."
At this point, I don't care. Go to hell, Cassidy.
"I...Love...You."
Don't. Just don't, Cass. Don't guilt trip me.
"...Don't go..."
Goodbye, Cassidy. Have a nice life.
It took three words. Something James had muttered when he visited. It took three words to make Butch regret everything he had told Cassidy that day.
"Cassidy was killed."
What?
"Giovanni had her shot. For lying. For risking the job"
Why?
"Like I said, Butch. She lied to him. And I think there were things done to her before they killed her."
How would you know?
"I saw the body, Butch. There were bruises... everywhere."
He couldn't speak. There was a pang of guilt that rushed through him. His heart was beating right out of chest and he hated the feeling of it. 'Cause his heart was beating and her's wasn't. It took three words to start their relationship, ("I love you.") three words to break it, ("I hate you.") three words to betray him, ("Butch did it.) three words to betray her, ("Go to hell.") and three words to make him regret every single thing that came out of his mouth ("Cassidy was killed.")
Three words. He wanted to say three more words so, so bad. ("I forgive you.")
