Hey.. this is just a short drabble that came to me before I fell asleep last night so I said I'd type it up XD Please let me know what you think!

The thing about being a Shinobi is that life is unpredictable, even if you're a genius.
Order has to be kept and your mind needs to be sharpened continuously. Your focus must not deteriorate and you must constantly show your allegiance. Because that is what you are.
A tool. You must be pruned, fixed and moulded into a machine that will do as you are told no matter what the consequences are for yourself. The hokage's word is law, and must be obeyed.
The penalty may differ from banishment to death. Shikamaru had always known that, always obeyed that and always understood. He had been a shinobi for 16 years, and yet he has a problem...
He's in love with the wind...
When out on missions he finds himself stopping for a few minutes to feel the wind blow on his pale skin. The smell is the most refreshing, differing from Jasmine to honey every now and again.
The wind is harsh. It can tear trees from the ground and be unforgiving.
It can kill livelyhoods and never stop its howling. But the wind has a gentle side... When the storm has come and gone, the wind will blow through your hair in the most comforting way and can make you feel complete and whole...
Shikamaru has grown accustomed to the wind. He stops and feels it, understands it, and learns from it.
Right now, as he sits on a lowly branch, waiting for some enemy ninja to approach, he looks on in the direction of Suna.
He's tranfixed by that road because he knows that approximatley three days away, his most precious wind will be on the way, howling and ranting in the most troublesome ways, ordering him around and claiming that its in his duty to do everything that the Ambassador says.
He just sits back and waits for the wind to still, for they say, after every storm, comes the calm.
