"Jade?"

"What do you want Vega!"

"I want to know why you hate me," Tori said, "I want to know why we can't be friends?"

Jade looked at Tori and burst out laughing.

"Friends?

"Oh stop you're making my sides hurt. I should be friends with you? I should be FRIENDS WITH THE GIRL WHO KISSED BECK IN FRONT OF MY FACE!"

"Oh for GOD sake," Tori said, "the kiss didn't mean anything"

"Yeah well it meant something to me," Jade said, "Tori you're perfect.

"You've got the perfect personality. You have the perfect friends. You're smart. You're sensitive. You're funny.

"Everyone loves you. Beck was the only person that loved me"

"Loves you," said a gentle voice.

Jade looked up. Beck had been listening to the conversation.

"How much of this did you hear," she groaned.

Instead of answering he allowed his hands to rest on her shoulders.

"Jade," Beck said gently, "that kiss meant nothing. I love Tori as a friend but she is not you. I could never love anyone the way I love you."

"But you got so angry when I poured the coffee in Tori's hair," Jade whispered.

He remembered that. He had told Jade that she went too far and ripped up her ticket to the show that they were supposed to see next week.

"WELL THAT WAS RUDE," she had yelled at him and they had argued. He sighed.

He had forgotten how insecure she was. He made a mental note to fix that problem and replace the tickets but that was not the important issue at the moment.

"People who love each other fight," Beck said, "that doesn't mean they don't love each other. Sometimes you fight with a person becauseyou love them. I'm sorry about the way I acted; I should have been more sensitive to your feelings.

"Sometime I forget how sensitive you are because you put on such a tough act. I never forget how much I love you however," Beck told her. He pulled her into his arms.

"That kiss" he said, "didn't mean a thing"

She lay her head against his chest and for the first time ever felt safe and content in his arms.
