Prologue
'No matter what, you're stuck in this world, you'll never leave, and you'll never escape. No matter how many times you'll take your eyes off it, it'll never disappear. They will come back for you, everyone of them and there's nothing you can do.'
It's what the gypsy lady told me. It makes no sense, but I guess it's unavoidable; she is a gypsy after all. Nobody ever believes what a psychic tells you. She did tell me about an approaching darkness, and maybe that 'darkness' isn't all bull. After all, I am stuck in a cave with some weirdo of a boy I've been paired with.
"The goddamned storm had to brew now." I mutter under my breath. I pull my legs to my stomach and shiver. "It so cold."
Standing against the wall, further in the cave than I have the guts to go, is Cain. His black hair spikes around his head like an anime character. The colour blending into the darkness like it belonged there. His stance is casual, standing with one arm slung over his chest while the other arm rests between his body and the wall.
I shiver again. I can't believe that the school always makes us girls wear the red pattered skirts they find so appealing, especially since there are so small. The white button up shirt, the red and black tie, and the black jacket didn't help much with the cold either. The boys got to wear black pants, the same tie and a long black coat. The shoes are a good point in our uniform though, because we could wear what we want. We could also design and wear the uniform how we want, as long as the right clothes have been supplied.
"You would not be so cold if you move further in." He says. Cain hardly ever mutters a word, so it usually shocks you when he does.
I look at him then at the darkness behind him and shiver once again. This time it's not because I'm cold. I have no idea what's further in, for all I know, a bear could come out at any second.
As if reading my mind, he threw a quick glance behind him.
""We've been here for the last hour and nothing has yet come out," He speaks. "Besides, nothing in hear would hurt you. So the least you could do is come to where I stand."
He speaks as if he is absolutely certain that nothing dangerous lurks beneath the shadows. I shiver uncontrollably by this point. I rest my head upon my arms, there is absolutely no way in hell that I'm going to move from this spot, only to put myself closer to danger even if Cain say's so. I'd rather freeze to death. Honestly, caves are supposed to be colder the further you go into them, so it's a wonder how Cain even handles it.
Something drops upon my shoulders and I finger the black fabric. Unbelievable! It's even warmer than my normal blood temperature. Warm hands wrap under my arms and lift me from the ground and to my feet before pulling me closer to the darkness.
No, no, no... I shout in my head, the chattering of my teeth stop my words from forming between my lips. I notice –though –that every weak step becomes warmer, and my assumption about caves being cold, becomes less true.
"See?" Cain starts. He sits next to me even when I shutter in fear. "It gets warmer, and nothing will hurt you."
To me, caves are never ending, so if they get warmer and warmer, hell must be less hot then I imagine.
