A lone diner lay not too far in the distance, the perfect place for a moment's rest and refueling of necessary sugars and proteins… Assuming the venue sold desserts.
The solitary wanderer slowly and quietly made his way toward the diner, grimacing slightly at the eclectic sound of free jazz pouring out into the evening. He had always thought Midvalley's methods for clearing his mind were strange. Much like that priest's.
He entered, and headed for an empty seat at the bar, perching on the stool delicately, femininely, receiving awkward glances, and comments on his appearance from a man at the far end of the bar.
"He's a strange one…"
"Mmm…. sometimes strange ain't bad…." his female companion remarked, looking the newcomer over, completely ignoring the glares her partner threw in her direction.
He huffed, "Have fun with those spikes, Baby."
The bartender headed for the new patron, leaving the others dry. It was time they sobered up. "What'll it be, Mister?"
"Just a piece of cheesecake will do nicely."
"Whatever you say, pal." He muttered, fetching the cheesecake. "That'll be three-ninety."
As the cheesecake was set before him, Legato placed the appropriate change on the bar.
"That's some coat you've got there…."
"I don't suppose that's really any of your business."
The barkeep looked over the money, "What, no tip?"
"Leave me be now, and I'll make yours quick and painless." He smirked.
"Freak."
"Fool."
Cheesecake: The only creation that could rid him of his irritations. He slowly brought a forkful of the substance to his lips, the sweet aroma filling his nostrils, causing him to salivate before the smooth concoction even entered his mouth.
Vice was the word that came to mind… shortly followed by weakness. Here sat the most powerful of Knives' servants, a man even Vash the Stampede feared, indulging in a creamy piece of cheesecake, drooling like a dog that hadn't eaten in days.
Yes, it was definitely his vice, his only downfall, aside from being human. Give him a piece of cheesecake and he might consider sparing your life…might.
