I gamble, it runs in the family. My father was a merchant, he loved
to sail and I went with him along with my mother, all three of us loved the
sea but there is a huge gamble with the sea, we were lucky enough to be
spared of her wrath but the goods we carried weren't. All of our money was
in those goods, with no goods we had no money to earn, we were rescued
quickly and all of us and the crew was safe. My father plunged himself off
the rescue boat and my mother died soon after we landed in Brooklyn warning
me never to be near the sea. I was fifteen, a girl trained for life on the
sea. I threw up.
I of course inherited the call of the sea, I can't stay away from it. But I'm a girl no one will hire me. I do the next best thing. I work near the sea. Brooklyn's good enough, I make enough selling fishes to stay in a boarding house, I never go hungry and I sleep in a warm bed, I have a few friends, but I am never happy The sea cast its spell on me and hasn't let go.
I go to the docks on my free time. Always a few newsies there, they never ask anything of me but they play cards with me if I have the money. They don't mind me sitting around and watching them either. As long as I don't talk to them to much or flirt. I'm not to keen to do either of them, and they don't flirt with me, which I'm fine with.
The Newsies are real nice. I've been on shore for a year and I've known some of them for the whole time. Maps is one of my favorites, he met me at the docks and offered to show me around, for a price, I paid it and he was true to his word. I got shown around all of Brooklyn and the main bridge. Then I was taken to the docks, the guys laughed at me because I was land sick, a small problem I've had forever. It's the opposite of what Maps has, sea sickness.
Most of Brooklyn does I've noticed. Get sea-sick, they are all so tough but if they step on a boat they turn green.
I'm sixteen, I work at a fishery and if I don't get off the shore I will go mad.
Disclaimer: I own everything in this chapter! I promise that the real Newsies will be in it!
Author's notes: Okay I know I should NOT be writing more. I will never be able to keep up with all this posting so this one is on like the waaaay back burners unless every one likes it. But I had to write this! Really! I am from a line of sailors and I went on a schooner for a while and got hooked. I seriously was land-sick. I got sick when we docked and got laughed at the whole time.
Cards on:
Old Heaters-
My house was made in 1893 and I think the heating system is like from the 30's. **Shivers cuddling up to the heater.**
