Title: Bats
Author: Asagi Tsuki
Pairing: Sherlock/John
Warning: none

A/N: the prompt I came up with is 'bats'. At first I wanted to write something about a baseball bat... or even the animal bat, but... this is what I came up with in the end. Hope you like =)

Bats

John wasn't sure what part of him screamed gay. He was a red-blooded male and he flirted with pretty women, yet people kept thinking he batted for the other team, which was quite frustrating, especially when they wouldn't listen to his explanation. He was shocked when Mrs. Hudson asked if he'd be needing a second bedroom, and was mortified when Angelo put a candle on their table to 'make it more romantic' as he had said it, ignoring John's repeated "it's not a date".

And of course, when he tried asking Sherlock about his love life, he had to mistake it as a proposition as well. So much for being a genius who could deduce anything and everything just by taking in the little details.

John wondered why these people were so blind, misguided, and stubborn. They wouldn't let him correct their misperception of his relationship with Sherlock, and his love life suffered because of it. All of his dates thought he had a fight with his boyfriend and was trying to cheat on him to get back at him.

However, years later, as he sat in his armchair, calmly sipping tea while listening to Sherlock play the violin, he idly toyed with the simple band around his left ring finger, and decided maybe it was him who had been blind.
