"Fire when ready."
Commodore Norrington stared out at the two Spanish warships anchored off in the distance. Hidden by the shadow of a cove, the Dauntless and two other warships from the British fleet stood readying to fire. The Spanish were not going to take this island.
An explosion was heard as a cannonball was fired, striking the water a mere five meters from the Spanish. Norrington pulled out his spyglass as the second shot was fired and hit near the helm. He watched as the Spanish sailors began to pack their cannons to strike a counter attack, but weren't being very successful. Most of them were dodging cannonballs and the debris from the destruction caused, or trying to find cover from the searing pieces of shrapnel that were raining down on them. Norrington smiled in spite of himself. He did not like to give surprise attacks, but they did have its advantages.
"How are we doing, Commodore?" Norrington turned to watch Governor Swann pick his way through the sailors and recoiling cannons. Though he was getting older, the governor still had the joyful bounce in his step that he probably had as a boy, no matter the circumstances of the moment.
"Splendidly Governor, the Spanish were taken by complete surprise." He handed his spyglass to Swann. Seeing that the Spanish ships were mostly destroyed, decided to confront them. Signaling the Captains of both ships, they began to proceed forward. "Though I do have one question to ask you- what was the reason you wanted us to defend this island? I understand that we need to keep control of these waters, but other then that, did we really have any use for it?"
"When I heard of the Spanish, I thought the same-but you see over there?" he pointed towards a deep inlet they we passing. "Since the drop off is so close to the shore, it would make a great port for ships to come through. This along with the Islands natural resources, I was hoping to build another trading post here with His majesty's permission." Norrington nodded.
"I understand, but there is another question that I mean to ask you."
"Go on."
"When you received the information of the Spanish, are you sure that there were only these?" He waved his hand to the now destroyed warships. "Surely they would be smart enough to send more than this."
Swann chuckled, a severe contrast to the Commodore's seriousness. "I received these reports from very trusted, very thorough men. I assure you that there are no others we need to worry about."
"I'm sorry, it's just a feeling I have." He turned out to see to admire the beauty of a sunny afternoon in the Caribbean. That's when he saw it.
"GOVERNOR!"
The two men slammed onto the deck of a ship as a cannonball shot over them and into the waters on the port side of the ship. "I thought you said there were no others!"

A/N- Well, that's all for now, I'll try to have the next chapter up soon. Remember to review!
